How To Disassemble a Shaver

If your electric shaver has stopped working, you might want to take it apart to see if you can fix it.If it's already dead and out of warranty, you should try it.To disassemble an electric shaver, you need to remove the blades and head, then find the screws that hold the body together. To clean the shaver more easily, you may want to remove the blades. If you have a safety razor, you need to gently loosen the head to clean it, which is different from taking it apart to repair it.

Step 1: Before you disassemble, check the manual for instructions.

If the shaver is meant to be disassembled for cleaning, your instruction manual can give you tips on how to disassemble it.Getting an idea of how your shaver works is a good idea. The manual may have warnings against taking it apart, so check it out first. If you don't have a manual anymore, you can find it online with the brand and model number of your shaver. If you take apart your shaver, it could void your warranty. If you plan on using your warranty later, you may not want to disassemble it.

Step 2: If you have a battery, discharge it completely.

If you have a battery-powered shaver, you don't want to open it while the battery is still charged, as it could shock you.Take the shaver off and turn it on.It should be left on until the battery runs out.Don't use a shaver with a cord.

Step 3: Remove the cap from the shaver's head.

The cap is made of plastic or metal. It's what you would take to shave. In some cases, it may have a button that pops it off, but it will usually pull off easily.

Step 4: The shaver's blades should be removed from the head.

The parts come off easily, as you have to remove them to clean the blades.Pull the outer frame off first. If it won't come off, try to pry it off with a screwdriver.Pull out the inner blade and outer foil parts. If you want to avoid cutting yourself, you need to use tweezers. You may need to remove small screws to get the blades out.If you tug on them, they will come out.If you have a shaver, you pull the blades from the head.A small button can be used to pop the head assembly off.

Step 5: The handle has screws and covers on it.

Take your handle off if it has a rubber grip. The handle has screws on it.To remove them from the left, use a small screwdriver. You don't want to lose them if you put them in a small bag. There are screws at the base of the handle.Lift the mustache trimmer if you only see one screw.

Step 6: Use a flat-head screwdriver to open the case.

The model of shaver you use affects how you open it.You might have to remove the case from the underside of the handle. If you need to pop it apart, you may need a screwdriver. The manual will come in handy here.If you play around with the shaver, you can figure out how to open it.There is a second cover inside some shavers. The screws need to be removed to take it off.

Step 7: Work on your shaver.

You can either replace the battery or attempt to repair the shaver at this point. The shaver may not be waterproof when you put it back together. If you break it open, you may break the waterproof seal, which is why shavers aren't meant to be disassembled.

Step 8: You should check your instruction manual for instructions on how to clean it.

It's always a good idea to read the instructions that come with your shaver. That way, you won't make a mistake when cleaning your shaver.Make sure your shaver is waterproof.

Step 9: Don't plug the shaver from the wall.

Simply remove the shaver from the wall.Make sure the shaver is turned off if yours has a battery and a charging station. You don't have to discharge the battery completely to clean the head.

Step 10: Remove the cap from the shaver.

The shaver's cap is made of plastic or metal. You shave this off.It might have a small button or tab to pop it up if it yanks right off.

Step 11: The shaver blades need to be taken off.

The foil frame surrounds the blades.Pull the blades to get them out.Try not to touch the blade part.If it doesn't come out, try to pry it out with a screwdriver. You might have to take out screws on a few models. There is a button to pop the assembly head off of a rotary head razor.

Step 12: Extra hairs can be removed with a shaver-cleaning brush.

You can use the cleaning brush to clean your razor. You can use a new paintbrush or toothbrush if you didn't have one.Run it over the blades to remove dead skin cells. On a soft surface, you can gently tap the blades. You could hurt the shaver if you hit it too hard.

Step 13: If the shaver is waterproof, you should clean it with water and dish soap.

The water can be dripped into the top using the faucet.Dosage liquid should be added to the blades.Add a little more water when you flip the shaver on.As they push the soap through the heads will suds up.After rinsing the shaver under water, turn it off.Take the head off again to rinse the blades and get rid of the extra water.Put the parts back together after the blades are dry.Body wash, hand soap, or even a cleanser can be used.If you hold down the power button for 10 seconds, the shaver's cleaning mode can be activated.

Step 14: If the shaver isn't waterproof or corded, use an oil spray lubricant.

The blades should be placed on a paper towel. If you want to flip them over, first you need to smil the top of them. The underside should be sprayed as well.Turn the shaver on and let it run for a few seconds to thoroughly clean and lubricate the blades. The shaver needs to be dry for at least an hour.

Step 15: The blade can be loosened by turning the handle to the left.

The blade is held in place by the handle, which turns independently of the head. The hold on the blade is lessened by turning it to the left.If it falls out, don't twist it.You just want it to be a bit loose. You can remove the blade from the shaver to make it easier to clean. You will likely end up cutting yourself if you try to clean the blade itself.

Step 16: Use hot, running water to clean the head.

The head should be held under the water with the opening toward the stream. If you want to clean out dead skin cells or hairs, let it sit there for 20 seconds. If you want to clean it out, you can soak it in a sink with warm, soapy water for 1-2 minutes. When you're done, rinse it thoroughly.

Step 17: Rub alcohol on the head of the razor.

If you get the head clean, the alcohol will kill it.You can put it in the alcohol. That will help remove the water from the razor. It's easy to dip alcohol in a small jar.You don't want to put something in another person's jar.

Step 18: The alcohol should be removed from the razor.

Take the alcohol out and give it a shake.Put the blade on top of a towel and leave it open. The razor could rust if put away wet.You should tighten the handle after it's had time to dry.
