A patchwork blanket is a great way to knit.

Pick a simple project that comes together quickly if you are overwhelmed by knitting.A blanket is patchwork. It is easy to do since it is made by knitting individual squares.Choosing large needles will make the blanket come together quickly and will hide any beginner's mistakes.

Step 1: You need yarn and knitting needles.

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to knitting needle requirements. You should choose a yarn that you enjoy because chunkier yarns will knit up faster than thin or fine yarn. The same thing happens with your needles. If you want a bigger blanket, use larger needles.A large blanket can be created by using size 19 US or 15.0mm needles and a lot of yarn.

Step 2: A slip knot is a knot.

The end of your yarn is usually tucked into the middle of the ball of yarn. You can tie a knot by making a loop near the end of the yarn. The short end should be on top of the long end.The inside of the loop should be folded over.Pull the loop tightly when you pick it up.Pull the end of the loop onto the knitting needles to tighten it.If you can pull the loop and it comes apart, you've made a slip knot.

Step 3: Cast on a piece of fabric.

The slip knot is in your right hand. You can grab the yarn if you drape it over the palm of your left hand.If your palm is facing you, wrap your thumb around the yarn.Use the point of your needle to thread.Pull the needle through so that the yarn can be lifted off your thumb.

Step 4: Continue casting on.

Wait until you have 14 stitches on your needle. This is an edge of one of the patchwork squares. Each square is about 20 cm.If you want to begin knitting, transfer the needle to your left hand.Continue grasping the yarn in your palm with your fingers, this will keep it out of the way and create tension so that you can quickly cast on.

Step 5: Put the right needle in.

The needle has no stitches on it in your right hand. The stitch closest to the tip of the other needle should be used. The needle should go from front to back if you put it under the stitch.

Step 6: Put the yarn around the needle.

Wrap the yarn around the right needle so that it's in between the needles.Pull the right needle down and the left needle up.You should keep the yarn between the needles.

Step 7: Go through the stitch.

The left and right needles should be on top of each other.Lift the right needle up and away from the left needle to remove the stitch. The stitch will be transferred from the left needle to the right one.The stitches shouldn't become tight on the middle of the needles if you work near the end.If they're too close to the ends of the needles, the stitches will fall off.

Step 8: Continue your knitting.

Knit the stitches until you reach the end. This completes a row of stitches. If you want to make another row, transfer the needle with the stitches to your left hand.Knit rows until your square is 20 cm.The stitches that are looped onto the left needle are not the stitches of the row you just completed.

Step 9: There is a method to knit.

The knitted square should be in your left hand. You can use the empty needle to knit two stitches. You can cast off the rest of the square with these stitches. There should be two stitches on the right needle. The square off of the needles can be worked off with casting off or binding off.It will be possible to take it off the needles without fear. When you assemble the blanket, you will be able to sew this square to another one.

Step 10: Put the left needle on the right needle.

The first stitch on your right needle should be pushed into the left needle. You should knit this first stitch with this needle.

Step 11: The stitch needs to be Lifted over.

Lift the first stitch with the left needle.Lifting the stitch and sliding it off of the right needle is what this means. You should only have one stitch on the right needle.

Step 12: If you want to cast it off, knit another Stitch.

You need two stitches on the right needle to cast it off.Continue until you reach the end of the row.Only one stitch should be on the other needle.

Step 13: The square needs to be tie off.

The needle needs to be removed from the last stitch. You should see a large loop.Hold onto this and use scissors to cut the yarn. When you cut it, leave about an arm's length of yarn.Tie the yarn through the loop and pull it tightly. After you've tied it off, there will be more yarn tailing from the end of your square. You can use this to sew the squares together.

Step 14: There are more squares to Knit.

Keeping in mind that you'll need to knit more squares, you can make the blanket as large as you want.Seven squares across by seven squares down is what you should use for a large blanket. If you used different colored yarn, arrange your squares on a large surface. If you want the rows to be horizontal, alternate the squares so that they are vertical next to each other.

Step 15: Attach the yarn.

Pick the squares you'll be sewing.thread the yarn from the square's tail with a large sewing needle. The square you're sewing to should be turned opposite. If the sewing tail has rows arranged horizontally, the square you're sewing should be arranged vertically.

Step 16: The edges of the squares should be sewed together.

Take the sewing needle and put it in the square that's next to it.Pull the needle to tighten the yarn. The needle should be inserted into the square with the tail.Going back and forth with the yarn is how you should be stitching the two squares together.Continue until you reach the end of the squares. The squares should be sewn together.

Step 17: You should weave in the end.

You won't need to sew into other squares because you'll have tails of yarn on your squares.Attach your tail to the needle.Instead of using it to connect to another square, weave it in between the knots on one square's edge.Cut the yarn off so that it doesn't come undone. It is possible to make your knitting look more polished by weaving in the end.

Step 18: Take your blanket and put it together.

Continue sewing until you have seven squares in a row.You can make a large blanket by creating seven more rows.Use fewer squares to make a smaller blanket. If you shorten the rows you can make a rectangular blanket.Adding beads and other objects to your knitting is a good idea. You could sew on the beads afterwards.Add knit flowers, leaves, or decorative edging.
