A safety band should be removed from a bic lighter.

Child-proofing devices were installed on Bic and most lighter manufacturers' products in the 1990s.If you have an injury that is preventing you from lighting one, have someone try it for you.

Step 1: With the red lever facing away from you, position a sturdy object such as a key into the lighter's flame hole.

Step 2: To bend the metal flaps holding the band in place, use the near rim as a leverage point.

When the safety band comes off, go slow and protect your eyes.

Step 3: If you want to wiggle the band out, use a needle-nose pliers or fingers.

Pulling it too hard could cause the wheel to loosen.

Step 4: Press the metal flaps that secured the band back in place by using the flat end of your object.

Step 5: If you want to force it up, you have to take a fork and put one of the side prongs into the lighter.

Depending on the brand, you may have to use a thinner item, such as a small screwdriver.A fork should work well for a Bic.For the sake of safety, it should be mentioned that sometimes it pops out fully and can hit you in the eye.I guess you should use safety glasses.

Step 6: If you want to remove it completely, you can use needle- nose pliers or fingers.

It saves you from having to re-adjust the prongs, which can sometimes nick your thumb, even after they've been flattened.Push the prongs back in with a hard object, such as the butt end of the screwdriver, if they actually came undone.Press them against the edge of the table.

Step 7: Bring the pocket knife out from the side, under the band and above the wheel.

Step 8: Don't Pry up, watch out.

The band usually goes off without a hitch. It's a good idea to point the lighter downwards. If this is done correctly, you won't have to bend the prongs back down. This will keep you honest enough of a cool guy/girl.
