A sheep costume is easy to make and can be adapted to fit an adult.You can use different sized clothing.To make the costume, grab a black or white sweatsuit and cotton balls.Attach cotton balls or batting to the clothes with hot glue or craft glue.You can add tufts of wool to your head with a headband, beanie, or hood.Finish the costume with a black nose, socks for hooves, and black tape around the wrists and ankles.
Step 1: Pick a black or white sweatsuit.
The appropriate size for the costume wearer is a sweatshirt and sweatpants.You can choose between a fully white sheep or a black sweatsuit.If you want to have a separate hat or headband, choose a hooded sweatshirt instead of a crew neck.If you think you will be too hot in a sweatsuit, you could wear a long sleeve shirt.Unless you want to wear tights, leggings, or other simple black or white pants, Sweatpants are your best option.If you use clothes you already have rather than buying new ones for the costume, remember that you will be using glue that is permanent.The clothes are ruined when you make a costume.
Step 2: You can choose cotton balls or polyfill.
Cotton balls can be used for a small child's costume because you won't be covering a large area.If the costume is for an adult, you will want to use synthetic cotton or polyfill batting because it will attach more quickly, and cover more area, than cotton balls.Polyfill can be used for a child's costume.Cotton balls can be purchased at any store.You can buy batting at big-box stores, but you might have to go to a craft store.Cotton balls give a textured look, but cotton batting will cover more space.Don't use cotton balls if you're in a hurry.
Step 3: The clothes need to be washed.
It will be hard to wash the costume once it is assembled, so wash it now if you want to.It is a good idea to wash brand new clothes to break them in and make them more comfortable.If the clothes are clean, it is not necessary to wash them.
Step 4: The cotton balls should be Glued to the clothes.
Attach the cotton to the shirt and pants with hot glue or fabric glue.It looks like sheep's wool if you glue the cotton batting up.The cotton balls should be close together.There is no need to cover the entire surface of the clothes.A sheep's wool stops before the hooves, so you can leave a few inches at the end of the sleeves and pant legs.
Step 5: Depending on your costume, cut the ear shapes from black or white felt.
They are about six inches long and two and a half inches wide.Use one layer of felt for basic ears, or sew two pieces together for fluffier ears.One black and one white piece of felt per ear can be used to create an inner and outer ear.The ears should look the way you want them to.Stuff a few cotton balls or a chunk of polyfill between the pieces of felt before sewing them together to make the ears look plump.If you don't want to buy felt, use black and white paper or another fabric.If you don't want them to be double thick, use only one piece of felt.
Step 6: Attach the ears to the headband.
Glue the ears to the headband.Attach a bunch of cotton balls to a circle of white paper.To make it look like the tufts of wool on the sheep's head, glue this to the headband.
Step 7: The beanie should be black or white.
Attach the ears to the sides with either sewing or glue.Glue cotton balls to the top of the hat.It is important to use a hat that fits tightly on your head and doesn't have a point on top or a droop in the back.Put the headband with ears over the beanie if you don't want to attach ears to it.
Step 8: The hood of your sweatshirt is your head.
Attach the ears and head tufts directly to the hood if you bought a hooded sweatshirt.Attach the ears to the hood with cotton balls.If you start to get too hot in the costume, this option will allow you to slide back the head portion.
Step 9: Black socks are on your feet and hands.
One way to make the costume more realistic is to wear long, black socks.Wear black shoes when walking outside.If you want to, take them off when you get inside.If you wear black gloves or mittens, your hands are still usable.
Step 10: The tip of your nose should be black.
You can cover the tip of your nose with craft paint, black lipstick, or eye-black.Don't paint all the way up the bridge of your nose or under the nostrils.There is a one-inch section at the end of your nose.If you want to make your look pop, put paint on your top lip and add red lipstick.
Step 11: Wrap the wrists and ankles with tape.
If you don't wear gloves or socks on your hands, use black tape on the wrists and anklets of your clothes to mimic where the wool ends and the hooves begin.Duct tape or cloth tape works well.
