Most homes have Venetian blinds since the slats can be adjusted to let in light.The blinds are made from a wide variety of materials.blinds need to be cleaned on a regular basis.Dust can be wiped off from time to time, or you can use a vacuum.If your blinds need a deeper cleaning, you can either wash them with soapy water or take them down.Blinds can be a great part of your home if they are cleaned regularly.
Step 1: Shut the slats and lower the blinds to make it easier to clean them.
Lowering the blinds makes it easier to clean them.To adjust the angle of the slats, use the turning rod after lowering them all the way down.If you want maximum privacy, position the blinds completely closed.Lowered blinds are bulkier than ones that are wide open, but it's necessary to have them this way.If you plan on moving them, be careful.
Step 2: Around the blinds, tie back curtains and other furnishings.
Pull them to the side so they don't get in the way.If curtains fall back in front of the blinds, Wrap them up in a band.If you take them off the wall, you'll be able to access the blinds.Move away from furniture, toys, and other obstacles that could trip you up.It's a good idea to wash or vacuum curtains.It's easy to forget that they have a lot of dust.If you need a stepping stool, give yourself plenty of room to move around.It's not necessary to get soapy while you're cleaning, so keep it away from your cleaning supplies.
Step 3: Before the cleaning, wipe away any debris with paper towels.
The blinds should be checked for problem spots.You never know when something will happen.If there is food, bug splatter, sticky spots, or spills, wipe up as much of the debris as you can so it doesn't spread while cleaning.Dry towels are sufficient for now.They don't have time to settle on the blinds when spills are fresh so try to clean them when they're fresh.It makes cleaning easier.
Step 4: A cotton glove is a soft dusting tool.
Gloves allow you to reach around the Venetian blinds by hand, but there are many other alternatives.People like using old socks.If you don't mind putting your hand in something that was on your feet, a socks is just as easy to use as a glove.You could use a soft cloth or piece of fabric.Many general stores sell gloves.You won't find a better tool for light cleaning than these.Along with any other cleaning supplies, look for it.Regular maintenance on your blinds can be done with feather dusters.They are great for reaching higher spots on the blinds, but not as effective at clearing individual slats.Paper towels and clothes dryer sheets are other options.Dryer sheets prevent static electricity from attracting dust.As the products get dirty, they need to be swapped out.
Step 5: Run your fingers over the slats.
Start at the center of each slat.Go back to the center and finish one side.It isn't the fastest process, but it does remove a lot of dust.As you brush across the edges, don't squeeze the blinds as you press them.You don't have to streak dust from one end to the other if you work from the center.As your cleaning tool gets dirty, be sure to replace it.There are strings hanging from the blinds.The slats are scrubbed the same way.
Step 6: Dust can be left on the slats if you don't change your duster.
It's going to fill up your glove or cloth when that dust goes somewhere.Take it outside and shake it.If you want to shake off the dust, stick your glove or duster in the trash bag.You don't want to put dust back on the blinds when you clean them.Dusting tools like paper towels should be thrown away.It's not the most cost-effective or eco-friendly solution if you need to go through a few of them.Dusters can be washed in soapy water.Before you use it on the blinds again, let it dry.
Step 7: Clean the other side by flipping the blinds around.
You can use the roller on the blinds.The slats should be adjusted so you can see the back ends of the window.To repeat the cleaning process, use your dusting tools.The pull cord and other accessories should be wiped off.If you have to wipe down each slat, slip behind the blinds.If you can't move the slats using the roller, you could reach the other side.
Step 8: Attach a duster brush or upholstery brush to the vacuum cleaner.
To get to the blinds, you will need a vacuum cleaner with a hose.Attach the brush attachment to the end of the hose.If your vacuum comes with a duster brush, use it on delicate surfaces.It's still decent to use upholstery brushes on blinds.Don't try to use the hose without a brush attachment.It's strong enough to scratch or chip slats.
Step 9: While you vacuum, hold the blinds.
Take no chances when vacuuming, even if you have the right vacuum attachment.Hang onto the slats as you move the vacuum.You can hold the end of the slat to do this.Shift to the other side as you move along the slat.Nobody likes seeing their blinds fall apart.The slats are delicate and should be used with caution.Keep a firm grip on the slats so the vacuum hose doesn't suck them in.
Step 10: The vacuum should be moved from the center to the sides.
The direction of the slats should always be followed.The vacuum hose needs to be moved to the right and left for Venetian blinds.Start in the center with each pass and work one slat at a time.If the blind is dirty, go back over it.The chances of damaging the slats are reduced by setting the vacuum to the lowest power setting.
Step 11: To clean the blinds, open the slats and reverse them.
The slat should be spun all the way around by the turning rod.It is a good time to take care of the dust on the window side.Remember to work from the center of the slats with the vacuum cleaner when you go back over them a few times.When you're done, check the slats for debris.To eliminate all of the dust, you may need to go over them a few times.
Step 12: There is a wood cleaner that can be used to renew wooden blinds.
It's a good idea to avoid soaking wooden slats in water.If you want to clean the slats, spray a wood cleaner or furniture polish on them.Rub the cleaner back and forth along the stain with a clean cotton cloth.The cord and other accessories should be left untouched for now.You can lift a stain by scrubbing it with a small amount of plain water if you don't have a wood specific cleaner.You should dry the wood off when you're done.Most wooden blinds are treated with a finish that resists stains, so a dry wipe is often enough to polish them.
Step 13: Warm water and vinegar can be put in a bucket to make blinds.
Put a bucket full of water in it's mouth and stir in about 4 cup of white vinegar.If you want a stronger solution, try making a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar.Adding an extra 4 cup of liquid dish soap could be used.A mild detergent can be used instead of cutting through grease.When you're done cleaning the blinds, rinse off the soap with clean water.
Step 14: Put a sponge or cloth in the mixture.
You can choose between a piece of cotton or a sponge.When used on tough stains, old socks are great scrubbers.If you put the scrubber into the water, don't soak it, it will cause it to rain everywhere.You could use a sock to grip the slats as you scrub them.For hard to reach spots, use a cotton swab.Cotton buds are good for reaching into tight spaces.
Step 15: The stains should be washed off of the blinds by wiping them down.
Start in the center and work your way toward the edge of each stain.You don't want to bend the slats if you press down with a light amount of pressure.Get the pull cord, headrail, and other accessories.It is necessary to deep wash heavy stains.It can happen even if you take care of your blinds.
Step 16: Clean the blinds with a cloth.
If you're working on wood, take a clean cotton cloth to the blinds.Check to see if the stain disappears if you notice any moist areas.A little scrubbing will remove most stains.It takes care of the dust in the area.Use caution if you want to take care of stubborn stains.You shouldn't bend the slats out of place if you want to perform a deeper cleaning.
Step 17: The blinds should be removed by undoing the brackets at the headrail.
There are brackets on the side of the headrail.The brackets are easy to open with a screwdriver.Pull the rail toward you to remove the blinds from the wall.Not all blinds have the same locking mechanism, so check the owner's manual for more specific instructions.You don't need anything other than a screwdriver.Only metallic and synthetic blinds can be deep cleaned.It is almost certain that this will damage wooden blinds.For a better solution, read the manufacturer's cleaning recommendations.
Step 18: The blinds should be spread on the floor of the bathtub.
If you're worried about scratching the blinds, lay a towel on the bathtub floor.When you're ready to put them in the tub, lay them on the floor.It's okay to fold the end over if the blinds are longer than the tub.If possible, keep the headrail and other metal components out of the water.If you can't fit the blinds in your bathroom, try moving them outside.There are a few good spots for them.Before they get even dirtier, lay out a tarp or blanket.
Step 19: Add a detergent to the tub.
The water should cover the blinds.If you have dish detergent in your kitchen, pour it in.It will do about 4 cup.If you think you will need extra cleaning power to cut through grease on the dirtiest blinds, add up to 4 cup of white vinegar.It isn't a lot of water, but keep some spare towels on hand to deal with any splashes or drips while you're cleaning.Attach a garden hose to a nearby faucet if you want to clean your blinds outside.When the blinds are clean, spray them down a few times.
Step 20: For at least half an hour, leave the blinds on.
The amount of time you need to leave the blinds in the water depends on how dirty they are.It can take as little as 30 minutes to clean them.A deep build-up of dirt may need to be left for 3 hours or more.If they really need the spa day, they can leave the blinds in the water overnight.If you're in a hurry, you can put the blinds in the water.Use a soft scrub brush to remove stains.
Step 21: Use a soft brush or sponge to scrub the stains.
It's possible that soaking isn't enough to remove the toughest stains.There are scrub brushes that can come to your rescue.You should choose something soft that won't scratch the blinds, such as a nylon kitchen brush, non-abrasive sponge, or soft cloth.Use a gentle amount of pressure to scrub the slats.Since you won't be able to soak the blinds, scrubbing is very useful.Keep spraying them until they are clean.
Step 22: To remove soap, rinse the blinds.
Turn on the clean water after draining the tub.If you don't have a shower head, you're fine.Try pouring water onto the blinds or spraying water on them until the soap is gone.The sides should be checked for any remaining soap or stains.If you can help, keep the blinds open as much as possible.If you have to move them, keep a towel under them.
Step 23: The blinds need to be hung in the air.
If you have good weather, drape the blinds over a railing, a fence, or some other place that is exposed to the sun and air.It will help the blinds dry out.They can be thrown over a shower railing, garage beam, or some other spot.Wait for them to become completely dry before hanging them up.To speed up the drying process, wipe the blinds off.It is possible to turn a hair dryer on to a very low heat setting.Keep it moving by holding it above the blinds.It's a good idea to keep the blinds away from the heating elements.Leave them against hot surfaces.
