Basketball Hoop : 8 Steps (with Pictures) - how to mount a basketball hoop to a garage...

Do you like basketball and want a hoop?I didn't want to buy one.I looked on the internet and found that there wasn't any.I made this.If you have stuff lying around, it is a cheap way to make a ring.Let's start building.Please let me know if I have made any spelling or measurement mistakes.Don't forget to rate.

The first thing you'll need is a ring, I made this out of 12mm (1/2inch)rod but it doesn't have to be that size.The basketball ring diameter is 450mm.To make the ring, you'll need something to wrap it around, this should be about 400mm.You may need to cut a disc out of wood if you find an old rim that is the right size.Attach it to the bench.As shown in pic 2, put another clamp just away from the former with the rod in between.Once you pull the rod around, you can cut the straight ends off.Put the ring on the ground, bash it flat, and use a bar clamp to squeeze the ends together.

I have a piece of flat metal that is 4mm thick.The ring has a flat spot.Two rods are cut long.The picture shows them being welded.The bolts you have are avaliable.You can bolt a ring to a post and ignore the rest of the steps.

If you want a net, you need to do this first, I got mine off Ebay.This step is easy to understand.I would recommend making a few spare pieces as they are easy to mess up.It doesn't really matter how much as long as they're all the same.You won't be able to remove these without sliding them of the end.You have to divide the ring into 12 parts.

The board should be cut to size.I am not a full size.The dimensions for a standard backboard are shown in the second picture.My dimensions are 1100mm wide by 700mm tall and 25mm thick.It doesn't have to be this size to mark the centre and mark your holes.

You need to mark your lines on the backboard.Put masking tape around them.If you do this well, it will make it neat, but you will need to waterproof the edges, and pull off the masking tape after you have done enough coats that it looks nice.

To start, you'll need to clean the metal.I used a sanding disk.The ring should not be black or white and should stand out from the backboard.The ring is usually orange or red.This will be easier to paint with a spray can.

If you want a pole, you can make that yourself.I put mine on the patio.I used heavy duty wood screws.A basketball ring should be at least 10 feet from the ground.I am not responsible for damage done to yourself, your gear or your house.Comment, rate and vote.Happy shooting.
