Become a member of Delta.

You're probably familiar with the community efforts of your local chapter.This historically black (but all-inclusive) organization was founded in 1913.If you're still in college or have graduated with a degree, you can become a DST sister.To become a member, you need to be in good academic standing, attend an informational meeting, and fill out the application.The chapter will vote on whether or not to accept you once they receive all your application materials.You need to get a majority of votes in order to become a member. Step 1: You can earn credits at an approved college or university. If you're studying for your first degree at a school that's recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or Council for Higher Education, you can become a collegiate member of DST.You should have 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours.Most universities are approved.If you don't know if you're in school, contact the academic department. Step 2: The degree is a bachelor's degree. If you have a bachelor's degree from a college or university, you can become an alumnae member.The school you attended has to be accredited by either the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education.You must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4 point scale. Step 3: Improve your grade point average. You will be checked to see if you're in good standing.If you want your application to be more competitive, you should try to have a higher grade point average.You should check with your school's chapter about their required grade point average.A higher grade point average is required in some chapters. Step 4: You have to fill out the application. All portions for the collegiate application should be filled out.The application will ask for a lot of personal and educational information.You will need to type rather than write in your responses.You have to describe your involvement in community organizations.You will need to explain why you want to join. Step 5: Provide proof of residency. Proof of residence is required along with your application.You can send a copy of your driver's license, voter registration card, state or college identification card or recent utility bill.If you're applying for alumnae membership, you need to live in the area that the chapter serves.Search for chapters in your region and state.Some chapters are specifically for women. Step 6: Application fees are paid. How much the application costs will be given by your local chapter.You'll pay national and chapter initiation fees once you're a member.National yearly fees Capital fund fee Chapter dues Step 7: Attend a activity. Rush Activity is a meeting hosted by the local chapter.You need to attend this meeting in order to join.The meeting will give information about the organization.Rush Activity will give you an application that you can fill out at home.You will not be able to join if you don't attend Rush. Step 8: The sisters should be impressed. It may be helpful to get to know several existing sisters if you are not accepted as a member.You can attend some of their events on campus, volunteer with groups that DST frequently helps, or just ask to talk to existing sisters about their experiences with DST.They may be able to write you a letter of recommendation if you've gotten to know a few of their sisters. Step 9: Do not join another Pan-Hellenic society. Women who are not currently members of any other society that is associated with the National Pan-Hellenic Council or the Panhellenic Conference, Inc. are only accepted into Delta Sigma Theta.If you've been kicked out of a Pan-Hellenic society, you can't join Delta Sigma Theta. Step 10: It's a good idea to avoid participating in this type of activity. Any part of the application process is subject to a strict no-hazing policy.If you participate in any activity during Rush or while your application is being considered, you will not be allowed to join.If you allow yourself to be hazed, you won't be admitted for membership.If you haze potential members, you'll be kicked out of the organization.You are responsible for reporting any activities you witness. Step 11: If you want to be a member, consider re-applying. You can apply again the following year if your application was denied the first time.If you want to increase your chance of being accepted, you will need to improve your application.Improve your grade point average, get letters of recommendation from women currently in DST, and write better application responses.
