Kindle books are generally a few dollars less than hardbacks. There is a large group of books that are quite inexpensive from free to a few dollars but this group suffers from the ease with writers can get books “published".

Amazon allow authors to sell books at $0.99 or more. For books priced from $2.99 to $9.99 Amazon pays authors a royalty of 70% of the sale price less a delivery charge which for most books is ten cents or less.
Is it worth paying for Kindle?
I think Kindle Unlimited is worth it for some genre readers and people open to indie/self published books. I do tend to think if you love and read romance (and some women's fiction) pretty widely you will get the most out of a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
