Can you paint your fence after it rains?

If it rained on your deck after the stain was applied, please leave a comment below.Pictures of your deck stain project will help.

When rain is predicted, it is best to not stain any exterior wood. Most deck stain brands will warn against the application of their product if there is rain.Sometimes the weather is not predictable. What do you do if it rains after staining?

You can't do much until it stops raining.Take a closer look at the deck after the rain has stopped. It depends on how hard it rained and how long it lasted.A light rain won't hurt anything but a good storm can.A difference can be made by the type and brand of stain. After being applied better, some stains can handle rain.

White spots are usually the size of a dime. Some damage can be seen from the rain.If you want to add a second coat, read the instructions on the stain can.If you're within the time frame recommended for a second coat, you can try applying a stain in a hidden spot to see if it fixes the rain damage.

If a light recoat doesn't fix the problem, you can try using a mix of wood cleaner and a pressure washer to wash the spots out without damaging the stain. You can lightly sand the rain spots.Care must be taken not to over apply the stain as this can cause other issues. If you can't fix the problem with washing or sanding, you may have to use a deck stain stripper to remove the stain.

Wait until the rain stops and the water fully dries off the deck or wood to ask a question. It's important to post pictures.

I began staining my deck rails today.Using a stain and sealant.Finished up at 6pm.There is a chance of rain after midnight.I don't know if I should be worried. It seems to be drying quickly.Thank you.

Intergrain universal timber oil was used to oiled our deck.It rained the next day. There were patches after the water dried. We had a few good sunny days and I sanded it back. There are patches and white marks on some boards. There are pictures attached. The weather is cool in Australia.

The weather app said there was no rain for the next 7 days. The deck is 6 months old.I am so upset that it started raining.I am using a stain.I don't know what to do now.Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

There were some rain spots on my deck after I stained it.How can I get rid of the water droplets?I am getting ready to redo my deck and would like to know how to fix it.Thank you.

You can't fix it by sanding it down to bare wood or using a new coat of stain.

Two years ago, we stained our deck. The rain spots on the deck have been added to by some dew that formed overnight.Let me know if there is anything we can do by looking at the pictures.I need to apply a new coat of stain to the deck.Is it possible to make it go away?

Is it possible to keep the stain from being displaced by using fans to dry the deck?

I am wondering if there is enough time in between to paint the pergola without any damage because it is supposed to rain on Tuesday.

It depends on the brand, the type of stain, and the temperature. All stains and conditions are not the same.

I used a semi solid stain on my boat dock. The rain came about 4 hours after applying. The rain did not bead up like I thought it would.I can touch the bare spots but shouldn't the rain bead on Semi solid stains??

After a long, dry summer in Northern California, I am about to start a new project using Sansin Stain. After a few days of rain, there will be a week of clear weather.Everything can get wet from the morning dew.I am wondering if it is okay to stain the projects or not.

According to the weather report, there was no rain in the 8 hours before we stained our back steps. We were packing up last night when the storm hit.

I tried to put a tarp over it, but a lot of water got in, so I cursed in the sky.

22 hours later, some parts are still tacky. Is the damage done and I shouldn't bother trying to get covered again? Will it get worse if it gets wet again?

Will it be protected with what is on it now for winter if we don't have idea weather again until spring?

The deck is 12 years old.We used a wire brush to stain the deck for the first time a few weeks ago.We used the All In One cleaner to clean the deck.We stained the deck after 24 hours of drying. We didn't realize it at the time, but we had a weekend of rain from a tropical storm. After the weekend of rain, the stain was peeling up and we ended up not liking the color. We decided to use the wire brush and the Finish Stripper to remove the new stain from the deck because we were concerned about the peeling. We didn't use the All in Once Cleaner because we thought the wood should be clean. It looked cleaner than the first time.We let the deck dry for a few days and then applied a different colored stain. It was all dry before the rain. The stain started peeling after the rain over the weekend. You could walk out on the deck in the rain. The pictures were taken after it was dried for a few days.It seems to be getting worse.Do you know what to do?Thanks for your help!

You're not kidding! The deck on our south facing deck was ruined by the use of the premium deck. Most boards are rotted because the deck has little holes on the surface that trapped water underneath. We have cleaned, sanded, and filled the damaged wood and will be painting the deck with Kilz porch deck and floor paint.

Light rain started as we applied Pittsburgh Ultra Advanced Semi-Transparent to our cedar deck.It looks like this. What should we do?

You will need to start over after removing it all.Strip or sand.Brighter after. It looks like it will need to be done all floors. The rails are okay.

We had a break in the weather and were able to stain our deck at 4:00pm on Friday. The deck looks terrible this morning because we have so much to drink. It is moist in Washington state this time of year.Over the past couple months we tried to strip the paint using Smart Strip which was not successful, and we have sanded and pressure washed multiple times to prep.Last night we used an anti-milch Additive on the Super Deck paint. Our weather forecast has been attached as well.Any suggestions? Is it better to put on a second coat on Sunday or wait until spring?

Hello. It rained for 3 hours after we stained our deck and boardwalk.Since then, it has rained intermittently.Water is pooling on both.If you want to re-stain, please see the photos attached.

The rain started at 8 pm on Monday, after I spent a day staining the deck on Sunday. The total volume was about 20mm.Between 26 to 36 hours before the rain, the stain was let dry.The water on the deck was beaded on top, and the water in the bucket was clear.I am taking photos of the deck to see if there is water damage.

The stain I used was from Australia. The label says it will take 24 hours to dry, but when I called they said it would take 48 hours.

It will rain tomorrow morning, but it is sunny today.I don't know if I should cover the deck tomorrow.I was going to cover the deck with plastic sheets last night but the rain made me give up.

There are areas between the boards that I missed. Is it a good idea to stain these areas? Will there be a problem if the stain bleeds over to the areas already stained? The oil is only used for one application.

P.S.It is getting cold in Toronto.10 at night and 20 during the day this week.

It will not dry correctly if you add anymore stain. There is no need to cover tomorrow. We wouldn't worry about touching the boards.

Thank you for the quick response. There are areas between the boards.I would like to see a bigger one.No need to touch up?

The bristle brushes I use for oil painting can reach deep down there.I can't touch the stained areas. Is it worth trying?

If you touch the spots, wipe the excess off the board where it is already stained.

I'm Hi.We stained our deck with an oil stain. We paused the project because the weather forecast changed to rain.Is it possible to cover the unfinished section of the deck with tarps?I mean the areas that have been pressure washed and sanded but have not seen a stain yet? Some deck planks were halfway stained.Half the length. Can we just apply the stain once the weather is good again and the wood is dry?We might have to wait until the spring due to bad weather.Would we need to sand the deck again? Thanks!

Do not cover.Make sure you have two days of drying if you stain this year. When you finish staining, it won't blend if you stopped in the middle of the board.

Because power washing didn't remove the black, we used a substitute solution with bleach and a plastic bristle brush to clean the deck.We applied a coat of Benjamin Moore transparent arbor coat after the deck dried for 48 hours. It continued to rain lightly overnight and this morning despite a forecast of 3 more dry days.It looks terrible now that it is dry. What should we do?

To fix this, you will need to remove all.Take what you can and sand the rest.

The deck stain I had 3 days ago is all white. Can you tell me what to do?

Some woods look dark and others are lighter, now that we have applied TWP.Should we apply more TWP cloth on the light areas to unify the color?

Will I need to wash my deck again after I washed it with a proper cleaner?Thank you.

We washed our deck. The weather moved in before we could paint it.It was about 3 weeks ago.The weather is nice for painting.Three weeks ago, we walked on our deck.Is it necessary to rewash the deck before painting it?

The deck was Pressure washed and sanded.Australian timber oil was applied. It rained for 2 days after we had 16 hours of rain. Some boards are still beaded but others are not. With fall rapidly approaching, I was wondering if the deck would have enough protection for the winter, or if I need to redo it this year.

I started the process of water sealing my wood fence with cabot clear wood stain, it hadn't rained in 48 hours, but I live in NC, so the weather could call for no rain.I got 1/3 of the fence done and it started raining and I don't know what to do.We had a good down pour for about 3 to 5 minutes and now I don't know if it was ruined or not, how do I fix it?Your help is greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Wait until the rain stops and the water fully dries off the deck or wood to ask a question. It's important to post pictures.

I have a picture of me using a wood protector on my fence. When it started raining, it only had 30 minutes to dry.It rained for about 3 to 5 minutes but this is normal weather here and I don't know if it will rain or not.Advice is greatly appreciated!

After staining the deck and getting half done, I took a break for 6 hours and then came back and almost finished the other half.I don't know if I should strip away what looks bad and paint again or just put a second coat on.Do I have to strip the whole deck again and start over?Is it better to paint the areas that weren't painted or to smooth them out after a few days?Is it a good idea to do two more layers on the areas that look like they lifted up?

The boards are rough and coarse again, even where the paint didn't lift, as they used to be.

Thank you for the quick response. It shouldn't be a problem for the paint to peel once it dries, it should smooth out again texture wise.I loved how smooth it was after the sanding.

A 15 year old deck has never been stained or sealed. We washed it.We used Rustoleum deck start primer on the first day.We began staining the floor of the deck with a water based stain. It was dry for four hours before it started raining. We were going to apply a second coat because there are some areas between the boards that are unfinished. When the deck dries out again, is this not a good idea?We don't want it to peel if we add too much stain and you said not to try "touch up" or "spot" staining.

It's still a little sticky, but I heard the thunder my deck was painted with 24 hours ago.Can send a picture after the rain.

The old deck had been sanded down to bare wood and was covered with a semi-solid super deck stain. After applying the first coat, I waited 48 hours and applied the second coat. The deck has water spots after the rain.Suggestions on how to correct this?

My new ipe deck was applied by the painters yesterday. It rained overnight.Do I let the sun dry off the water on my deck or do I squeegee it off?It could rain again in a few hours.

Thanks. It was great advice and quick. The final question is if the life of the stain will be shorted or if my deck will crack or warp because it rained so soon after it was applied.

Life of stain would not be in danger. If there was an issue, you would see large water spots in the stain and your picture does not show this.

We stained our 1.5 year old pressure treated wooden deck using Valspar semi-transparent stain and just after we finished it started raining.Rain was not expected until tomorrow, but we checked the weather earlier in the day.It is going to rain every day next week. When the deck is completely dry after a rainy day, do we need to sand it down or power wash it?Is it possible to apply a second coat of the same stain?

It depends on how it looks when dry, but I think it needs to be removed and started over.

I had my deck painted. This was done by a non pro friend after my husband passed away.It was a big job.I need another coat because the color was not perfect and I needed to do a touch up.I had a light rain overnight and was going to do that today.Should I do a second coat and live with flaws or wait a year?2.Is it a good idea to wait until the weather looks better for a few days? You can see the difference in depth if you second coat it.Thank you, I am a quiet person.

I stained a new deck.Put the first coat on.Let it dry for 24 hours.Went to put on a coat and it rained hard for about 10 minutes. Is it better to wait for the deck to dry and finish the second half or start over again?

You will probably have an issue with the 1/2 that was rained if you post pictures after it dries. It is most likely to peel down the road.

I stained a new deck this morning. In East Tennessee storms come and go as they please, even though the chances of storms were low for the day.It began to rain after I finished.I am afraid that the rain will come again.I used Olympic Elite oil on pressure treated lumber. The water is not soaking into the wood, and I don't see any white spots.

We applied Behr Premium transparent n 400 on Friday. It rains about 12 hours later and the next day.The deck doesn't seem to dry despite the rain last night. There are no white marks or peeling.Should I be concerned about water damage? Is it possible to speed up the dying?

Wait until it dries out and assess. You will be fine if it fully cures. It's not possible to speed it up.

We live outside of Seattle. Our deck is about 12 years old, 26 cedar, and it gets pretty hot when the sun is out in the PNW.It is 1800 square feet.We used TWP to restore a deck.It looked great. We had a 5 day window to apply TWP Pro cedar tone.We did the wet process. It looked brand new.It rained at the halfway point. There are puddles on the stained areas.I'm sick of it.It was looking amazing after hours of work.Your advice has been correct.Where do we go from here?

You may need to remove the stain from the floor.Send a picture of the wood after it has dried out.

I restrained my deck.We applied a coat of oil.It rained a lot over night. There is a picture below. How can we fix this?

Sherman Williams used a deck stain. It rained for 4 hours after applying two coats. There were a few spots on the deck where the stain washed away, but most of it held up.What is the easiest way to clean it?

The color is called Mercury and is a solid stain. It came out lighter than the swatch.I thought it was going to be black.

The deck was stained with a dark gray/ brown stain.I only had one coat on the stairs before I quit for the day.The 24 hours had a high of 91 and a low of 67.There is a heavy rain.Is it safe to do a second coat of stain when the stairs are completely dry?

The far left side of the picture was stained two days ago.It rained 5 hours after I stained the right side. There is no beading of water in the whole section.I have to wait for the wood to dry out completely before I finish.Suggestions on what to do with the boards that don't look good?

Hello!A stain/seal was used.It rained after we applied our first coat of stain. There isn't any white spots, but there is some pooling of water. The pictures were taken after the rain stopped.

This has just happened to me.I stained a small portion and it started to rain.I was only able to stain the left top railing.I have my fingers crossed.

The deck was stained and then it rained for 2 days. Some of the boards are green. What can I do to get rid of the green?

I have a new deck and it was stained with Calbot Australian Timber Oil.After 17 hours of drying, it rained for two hours. Some water spots can be seen on the rails. The spots lightened as the deck dried. What is the best way to correct this?Strip and re-do; lightly sand and hope it evens out; nothing? Thanks!

After staining my kids play set, I had a heavy rain for about twenty minutes. If it were to peel, how long would I notice it peeling? There is very little spotting from what I can see.I don't want to have to change what I stained last week and try to match it up.The SuperDeck Semitransparent oil was being used.

I used a gold stain on my deck. The rain is an hour after I finished. The deck is sticky in parts and there are a few boards coming up.I am very disappointed. How can we fix these issues?
