STP brand "Son of a Gun" can be used on the outside of a latex balloon (instead of Hi-Float) to prevent the chalky oxidation that results from long exposure to air.
Does HI-FLOAT really work?
Yes, ULTRA HI-FLOAT can be used to prolong the life of air-filled balloons. HI-FLOAT prevents air from escaping through the walls of a latex balloon. It actually does an even better job of preventing loss with air than it does with helium. HI-FLOAT works in air-filled round and non-round balloons, such as 260s.
Can you inhale HI-FLOAT?
Helium is not toxic nor flammable, but breathing it can result in asphyxiation (loss of consciousness due to insufficient oxygen). Most of our latex helium balloons are treated with Hi-Float and while it is non-toxic, you don't want to put it in your lungs either!
Can balloons float without helium?
When anything like a balloon is filled with a gas that is lighter than the air regarding its density, then the balloon will float. Since we are talking about floating balloons without helium, we would consider Hydrogen gas here to fill the balloon.
How long do HI-FLOAT balloons last?
The shelf life of HI-FLOAT is at least a year for unopened bottles and at least three months for opened bottles. Use your oldest material first to avoid accumulating product with excessive age.
Do you put HI-FLOAT in foil balloons?
Does HI-FLOAT work on foil balloons? No. Foil balloons are not buoyant enough and will not float when treated. For very long float life, we recommend a 16-inch latex balloon treated with ULTRA HI-FLOAT.
