This is one of the most popular shrubs in western Oregon.And rightfully so.This wild lilac has excellent cold hardy flowers and glossy evergreen foliage.A shrub that can explode in growth in rich soil is restrained in poorer areas.When planting, remember this.It performs the best in un-amended soils in full sun with regular summer water for the first season to establish and then none in subsequent years.Sky blue flowers cover this dense shrub in a haze of color for 3-4 weeks in May to June.Most other Ceanothus was later bloomed.This shrub is so durable that it has made it's way to the highway verge mass plantings and is just as good as a garden plant.It survived the cold in the southern Willamette Valley by freezing to the snow line and then re-growing.Ceanothus is durable and dependable.It's better to avoid the summer heat and water than it is to let the root water mold do it.The shrub is good for the beginning gardener.It is loved by all kinds of bees.NOT DEER RESISTANT.At least half of its make up must be a hybrid with C. thyrsiflorus.The name was found in Victoria, Canada.The old Skylark was re-named after it survived a hideous winter.The old name was forgotten and the glee of survival and discovery led to the new name.Victoria and Skylark are the same thing.Very fast growing to an average of 8 feet.Excellent with all west coast natives.The blooms have yellow Halimiums.A wonderful floral and cultural combination.
