When you're getting a new phone, the carrier will perform a credit check to determine whether you qualify for financing and under what terms. Even though you're essentially being extended a loan to pay for your new phone, the payments won't be directly reported to the credit bureaus and won't help your credit score.
Does an upgrade require a credit check?
At Upgrade, when you check your rate for a personal loan we perform a soft inquiry on your credit report, which does not impact your credit score. If you receive a loan through Upgrade, we will perform a hard inquiry, which may impact your credit score.
Does Verizon run a hard credit check?
They do credit checks with new service. When I signed up the hard pull didn't affect my score at all. Unless you have multiple hard checks in a short period, one hard pull shouldn't change your score that much if at all.Jan 29, 2020
