Eastern Fence lizard facts, diet, venom, bite, characteristics

The Eastern Fence lizard is the most common lizard in LBL.Adults average 4 to 7 inches in total length, more than half of which is tail.Females are gray on top with dark crossbands on the back.The males tend to be browner.There are blue or greenish patches on the bellies of the eastern fence lizard adult males.There are patches under the throat.There is a row of femoral pores on the underside of adult males but less on females and subadults.The scales have a rough texture to them.

Most of the time, the Fence Lizard is seen in dry, open, wooded areas.It is common in the LBL.

Eastern Fence lizards are basking in the sun.Fence rails or the sides of buildings are usually on the side of a tree.Each male defends a small area from other males.All ages and genders are good climbers and can ascend the opposite side of a tree.The tail detaches easily, and a potential predator must be content with just the tail.A lizard is growing.Spiders and insects are included in food items.In the early summer, the females deposit their clutches of three to sixteen 38-by-58inch, oval, soft-shelled eggs under rotting logs or stumps.The young emerge in late summer and mature in their second year.
