Graphology is a linguistics level of analysis.

Writing starts on the left and moves to the right in the English language. It starts at the top of the page.

Writing in other languages is arranged differently.Hebrew and Japanese move from right to left in rows.

Graphology is in context. The smallest unit of written communication is called grapheme.A grapheme is a letter of the alphabet.A scientific, mathematical, or any other kind of symbol is a grapheme.

English is an ideographic language. The writing system is based on symbols. These are not connected to what they are expressing.

Chinese is a logographic or pictographic language. The characters of that language were historically representations of the object being expressed.

These pictures no longer look like houses, people or trees because they have been changed over the centuries. To the uninitiated, they seem to be the same as the English alphabet.

Graphology is a level of analysis used in linguistic studies. The study of layout, the use of logos, and any other feature of graphical communication is included.

Children are taught to form individual letters. The transition from upper case printing to continuous script is difficult for some students. This can be a problem for their studies.

Our own style of hand-writing is developed with literacy and maturity. The way we form our letters is subject to context.

A conservative version of the same grapheme can be formed at the end of a word, but only if it occurs in an initial position.

It is important to distinguish between upper and lower case letters. This can't be done with printing.Continuous script can be produced quickly.

The eye is led by the connecting strokes between the characters, which makes continuous script easier to read. The use of sefifed fonts in the layout of continuous writing is the same principle.

Approaches to teaching hand-writing have changed over time. Each generation seems to have its own style of handwriting. The script style of our parents and their generation is the same as that of their parents' generation.

Similar to the phenomenon of speech style, handwriting styles are easier to categorize from a distance. Our children may see our handwriting as belonging to an identifiable style, while we ourselves consider each person's handwriting to be unique.
