Hang something on a brick.

It is possible to hang something on a brick wall, even if you find it scary.Use screw-in anchor hooks if you need to hang heavy objects.Pre-drill holes into the mortar or brick, then screw in the anchor hook. The best anchors for light objects are the ones that stick to the wall. Step 1: Purchase anchor ratings for the weight you want to hang. If you want to record the weight of the object, set it on a scale.Purchase anchor that are rated for this weight and above. If you are hanging a framed picture that weighs 7 pounds, then you should buy 10 pounds of approved anchor. At any hardware store, you can find brick anchors.Multiple anchors can be used to hang a large or heavy item.If you want to hang a 10 pounds framed picture, you can use 2 anchors rated for at least 5 pounds. Step 2: You can get a drill and set of masonry bits. If you don't already have them, look for them at a hardware store. To ensure a snug fit, use a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the width of the screws. If you are using anchors with screws that are 0.25 inches wide, then you should use a drill bit that is only 16 inch wide. The width of the screws will be listed in the packages of anchors. Step 3: Do you want to drill into brick or mortar? The mortar is easier to drill into and softer than bricks. It will take a little more time and effort to drill directly into the bricks.Since bricks are often hollow, it is better to drill into mortar. Step 4: Where will you drill the holes? Plot out the holes you need to drill with a marker or pencil.Make sure the holes are at least several times the width of a screw. The mortar or brick can crack if you drill holes that are too close together. If you are hanging a light object, you should have one anchor in the middle. One anchor can be placed on each side of a larger object. Before drilling the holes, measure the height of each screw location.Make sure that they are even by placing a level on the line between the marks. Step 5: Put the drill bit into each mark. The drill bit should be at a right angle to the wall. You should use a bit that is less wide than the screw you want to use.The screws/anchors are long.If your screws are 0.75 inches long, drill about 0.8 inches deep. When you get the debris out of the hole, reverse the drill bit.You can use a pipe cleaner to pull the dust out of the hole. Step 6: The anchor's plate has a screw in it. A plate with a hole in it should be your anchor.Attach a screwdriver to your drill. You need to drive the screw through the hole in the plate and into the wall hole. There is a washer between the screw and the anchor plate. Step 7: Alternatively, screw in the hooks. There are screws at the end of the anchor.Turn the hook's screw into the hole you predrilled in the wall. Step 8: Make sure everything is tightened by hand. To double check that the anchor is secure, take a screwdriver and give each screw a few turns by hand. The screw should not move.If you used screw-in hook anchors, make sure that the hook is upright and attached to the wall. Step 9: The brick wall is a good place to hang the item. You can catch a wire on the anchor hooks if you hang a framed picture. You can fit the end of the anchor hook into other objects. If you can't help your object hang on a hook, go to the hardware store. You should be able to find a variety of hangers. Step 10: You can use "pinch" hangers. This variety is small enough to fit over the height of a brick. You can use the back of the anchor to hold a brick on the narrow space where it sticks out past the mortar. The anchor will stay on the brick if the anchor is squeezed. These are not meant to hold heavy items since they aren't fastened securely into the brick or mortar. Step 11: Attach hooks to the brick. The sticky surface of the hanger can be seen if the backing from it is removed. To put it in place, push it firmly onto the brick. To make sure they stick to the brick, use heavy duty hooks.Hang anything heavier on the hooks than they are rated for. Step 12: Double-sided tape can be applied to the wall. Double-sided tape can stick well to brick.Press the sticky surface firmly to the brick after removing the backing from one side.Press the object you want to hang on top after removing the backing from the other side. It's best to only use double-sided tape for light objects.
