Here are a couple rules of thumb to help you choose the right size pot for your plants: For a mixture of plants, look for containers at least 12 inches wide. Annuals usually need at least 8 inches of soil depth, while grasses and shrubs may need two or three times that amount.
How big should a planter be for a plant?
Your plant should always live in a planter that is slightly larger than the plant itself. Placing a plant in a planter that is too big can cause complications, and a too small one won't fit the plant at all. Do your best to match a planter with a diameter 1" 2" longer than your plant's diameter.
