How To Attach a Braid to a Mono.

A double uni knot is the best knot to use when connecting a mono leader to a braided main line. The knot is very strong and easy to tie. There are other ways to tie 2 lines of different diameter together. The Albright knot is popular when tying fly line to backing line for fly fishing because it slides easily through your reel guides.

Step 1: The 2 lines should overlap the ends by about 6 in.

The braided line should be placed on the bottom so they run in opposite directions. To give yourself plenty of line to work with, overlap the ends by at least 6–8 in.The double uni knot is the fastest way to tie a braided line to a monofilament line.It is one of the most reliable knots you can use to join 2 lines together.

Step 2: Use the mono line to make a loop about the size of your fist.

Back over itself, loop the end of the line.Pull the end up and lay it across the braided line.It is easy to tie the knot with the lines lying on a table.

Step 3: Wrap the end of the mono line loop around the parallel lines.

Wrap the end of the loop around both lines in the center. The mono line should be pulled out of the loop after you wrap the lines 7 times so that they point the original direction. After wrapping it many times, make sure you have enough line to pull it on.Start again with a bigger loop if there isn't enough slack.

Step 4: The braided line can be used to make a loop.

Double the end of the braided line. The end should be pulled across the parallel mono line.Wrap it around the 2 parallel lines if you left enough at the end of the loop.

Step 5: Wrap the end of the braided line loop around the lines.

Wrap the braided line around both lines in the center of the loop. The braided line was facing in the original direction after 4-5 wraps.Start over with a bigger loop if there isn't enough line at the end of the loop.If you make it too big, you can cut off the excess line later.

Step 6: To tighten the knot, pull the ends of the lines apart.

Pull the knots closed by grabbing both sides of the joined lines with 1 in each hand. The name double uni knot comes from the fact that you will have 2 uni knots next to each other. The double uni knot is sure to hold when properly tied.

Step 7: The end of the braided line is where you should make a loop.

To create a loop, double the braided line back over itself. You have plenty to work with if you make the loop at least 2–3 in.The albright knot can be used to tie a braided line to a monofilament line. You can tie any lines of 2 different diameters with it.

Step 8: Under and up through the loop is where to put the end of the mono line.

Pull the end of the mono line through the braided line. You will be able to wrap it 10 times if you pull enough through.Use the thinner line for wrapping and make the loop with the thicker line.

Step 9: Wrap the mono line around itself 10 times.

The mono line goes under the loop.Wrap it around the looped braided line, passing it under and around all 3 lines until you have made 10 complete wraps.Pull more of the mono line up through the loop if you don't have enough line to wrap it 10 times.

Step 10: The end of the mono line should be moved back through the loop.

The mono line should be pushed back down through the loop. You can grab both sides of the line if you pull through the other side. Now that you have joined the mono and braided lines, tighten them.

Step 11: To tighten the knot, pull the ends of the lines.

The braided line should be grabbed in one hand and the mono line in the other. To cinch the knot, pull them apart slowly. You can trim off any excess lines now that your 2 lines are securely joined.
