How To Back Comb

It doesn't have to cost a fortune to have beautiful hair.If you want more volume in your hair, you can learn how to back comb it.Natural-looking volume can be achieved by backcombing the underside of your hair and smoothing down the top.Learn how to add height and flair to your hair in a few easy steps.

Step 1: You can wash your hair.

This is the first step if you are going for extreme body.Pick a product that says "volumizing."It's a good idea to use a cleanser that is labeled as "clarifying" to get more volume. They can clean away conditioning agents and oils that may be weighing your hair down.If you want volume, don't use shampoos that are made for dry hair. There are conditioners in these that might make your hair look better. If you have dry or damaged hair, you should use a hydrating cleanser.

Step 2: You can use a volumizing conditioner.

Again, you want to go with a brand that says it will add volume, not smooth your hair down.If your hair is not damaged or dry, you can skip the conditioner. If you have dry or damaged hair, use a deep conditioner.

Step 3: You can use a volumizing product through your hair.

Spread it between the roots and the ends.If you want to distribute the product evenly, run a brush through your hair.

Step 4: Put your head down and blow it dry.

The hair can dry almost weightless. If you want to add volume, use a low temperature setting.Natural wave and volume can be preserved using a diffuser.

Step 5: There is a section of hair to choose from.

Do you know what part of your hair needs volume? The crown, the top of your head, or your whole head can be back combed. To section off hair, hold a small section of it in your hand and use your fingers. If you want to keep the strands from escaping, hold the hair straight up and pull it taut.A section of hair on top of the head is what a lot of people like to start with.Adding a little lift can make a big difference.

Step 6: Remove the hair from the back of the head.

Place your brush or comb about halfway between your hair's roots and your hand, and apply firm brush strokes downward towards the scalp.Start by working towards the side of the section that is closest to your face. There is a cushion of hair at the base of the hair section.Your hair will look wild at this point. That's normal.Your hair should look like it hasn't been combed in days if you backcombed it correctly. The tangles can be hidden later when you smooth out the top layer.

Step 7: Take a small section of hair and repeat.

Continue until you have the volume you want.

Step 8: To smooth the top layer, use a brush.

To hide the backcombed sections of your hair, use light pressure and fluid movements to brush out the top layer. You need enough pressure to blend the hair together to cover or hide the back combed areas, but not enough to flatten out the areas where you just added volume. The back combing shouldn't be seen, and your hair should be smooth and full.

Step 9: You can finish styling your look.

To hold the look, add hair spray.Backcombing can be used to create dreads. The classic French twist begins with backcombing.
