How To Be a Good Girlfriend as a Teen

If you like the person you are seeing, that is great. To make the relationship last and keep it fun for both of you, you will probably want to be the best girlfriend you can be.Being a good girlfriend is more about knowing how to communicate and be good partners.

Step 1: Make sure you are mature as well.

This can be difficult when you are a teenager.Everyone around you is maturing, and you are probably all doing it at different rates.Pick someone who seems to be at the same place you are on the journey. It will make things simpler. If you notice how comfortable you feel around this person and how easy they are to talk to, you can determine if you are equally mature. Are you annoyed by them because they are immature or condescending? You may be at different levels of maturity. Some people think that age is just a number, but it can be a good indicator of a relationship.

Step 2: Share interests.

People in romantic relationships share interests. If you enjoy similar activities, you will always be able to find fun things to do together.Meeting someone through an activity you enjoy can make for a great relationship. It is possible to meet a potential partner in a club, student government, or extracurricular activity.Similar values can bring you together. If they both love sports and art, they can still be with each other.

Step 3: Someone with self-awareness is a good person to look for.

Since not everyone is mature enough to have self-awareness, it can be difficult when you are a teen.A person has self-awareness when it comes to their behavior and effect on others. They can look at themselves and make changes if they need to.A person with self-awareness will have some control. They won't try to rush you or the relationship.A person with self-awareness can see how their actions affect the relationship.

Step 4: Choose someone who is respectful.

It is important to find a partner who is respectful and avoid those who might be abusive. This is a good time to set boundaries and understand your rights in a partnership, as early relationships are all about learning. It's important that you learn to look past what a person says and really look at how they treat you, because aggressive people can be very charming.Extremes in behavior and mood, overly protective and controlling, inflexible and judgmental, intense and co dependent, and a tendency to bottle up emotions are some of the common characteristics of abusers. These are not someone you should get involved with if you notice them.If you feel like they're just misunderstood, this is not a good dynamic. If you want to stay in a relationship, set boundaries and stick to them.If the person you're interested in violates these boundaries and chooses not to respect them, then you should end the relationship.

Step 5: Take it slowly.

If you meet someone you are excited about, you may want to start a relationship with them.If the relationship burns, you may get hurt. You should date for a while before you decide to be this person's girlfriend. You can be honest if they press the issue.Say something like, "I really like you, which is why I want to take things slowly."You can say something like, "I really like you, but I'm just not sure if I want to be your girlfriend just yet."If that is how you feel, I would like to get to know you better.

Step 6: If you want to compromise, learn to do so.

You and your partner will have to compromise for the relationship to work. You need to figure out what is important to you.It is important to know the difference between healthy and bad compromises. If dance is important to you, you should support your partner's hobbies by coming to their recital.Cheer them on during their sports game if they attend your dance recital. You might have to compromise on dates. You can see his movie, but then go to the restaurant that you want.

Step 7: Stay faithful.

It's important for a healthy relationship. If you have committed to being someone's girlfriend, that means you will only be romantic with them until you break up.Don't be romantic with other people. It is okay to be romantic or sexual with more than one person. This requires a lot of maturity and communication from everyone.Don't assume a relationship is open without talking about it.It is not technically cheating to flirt with someone else. You should not do this in front of your partner. You may not be ready for a relationship if you find yourself tempted to cheat.

Step 8: The friendship should be kept intact.

If you like someone enough to be their girlfriend, you should also like them enough as a friend.Friends support each other by having fun together. It is now romantic, but keep those things at the center of your relationship.Ask your partner what their day was like.If they are sick or struggling, check in with them.Make sure they know you care when you send them cute notes. You should keep doing things that you enjoy. You don't have to spend all of your time making out just because you are a couple.

Step 9: Suggestions for fun date ideas.

You should not assume your partner will have all of the great date ideas. You can show your commitment to the relationship by coming up with fun things you can do together.Movie nights, sporting events, and concerts are some of the classic dates.Hikes, bike rides, or a walk in the park are some of the fun outdoor dates you can take. You can volunteer at a soup kitchen. If you want to run or walk a local 5K, sign up.

Step 10: They should support each other.

A lot of people seek out partners because of the support they offer.Being a good girlfriend means supporting your partner during good times and bad.Send a note or card to your partner if they aren't feeling well.Ask them if there is anything you can do to help and let them know that you are thinking about them.If you don't go to school with your partner, send them messages to let them know you're thinking about them.If help is needed, offer to help. They might need help studying for a test, putting up posters for their student government campaign, or setting up a party.

Step 11: Don't lose your individuality.

Couples that seem so into each other that they do everything together are probably you. This may seem like bliss, but it is usually not very healthy. Each person in a healthy relationship has their own sense of self.It is great to try things that your partner is into, but make sure you are honest about your level of interest. Also, keep up with your own interests as well. Both of you should still be spending time with your friends. That is perfectly healthy."Distance makes the heart grow fonder."

Step 12: Private matters should not be on social media.

When something happens in your relationship and you want to vent or gush to the world, remember that it can be seen by a lot of people on social media.Tone it down if you want the world to know how sweet your partner is.They could get embarrassed or see the gesture as private. If you had a fight or something that upset you, don't tell the world about it.It could make things worse.

Step 13: Don't gossip.

Refraining from gossip means not starting it on your own.Gossip is telling people private things about your partner.Listening to what people tell you about them is also a part of it.Before gossiping or believing what someone else tells you about your partner or relationship, ask them about it.If you want to share something from your relationship with friends, ask your partner first as it could be private. It's definitely not something you should share if they've said something like "This is just between us".
