How To Care for a Wounded Leopard Gecko

Some leopard geckos are unfortunate to get injured or wounded in the pet trade. It's important to learn how to care for the little geckos after they get hurt.

Step 1: If possible, take it to the vet.

If something is seriously wrong, it would be best to see an exotic vet. Some vets that care for animals like cats or dogs may not be aware that some of the drugs they use are toxic to lizards.

Step 2: Make sure the habitat is set up correctly.

It is a good idea to place an injured gecko in a tank or tub with a paper towel as a base.Even for a healthy gecko, try to avoid the use of sand.Their natural habitat is softer than the dirt it is.A stressed gecko won't heal as well as a content and calm one if you add sanitary hides to it.

Step 3: The tail needs to be checked.

When a gecko lands on its tai, it can break its tail, but it's usually not too serious. The tail may drop off, but if the above requirements are met, the tail should regrowth!Adding a humidity hide can allow the shed to become unstuck.

Step 4: Don't be impatient.

Make sure the wounded leopard gets plenty of vitamins and minerals, as well as clean daily changed water. It's a good idea to let it rest in peace, as sometimes the gecko is shocked by an event.Even a gentle hand may still cause injury to a tender hurt gecko, so don't handle as much as possible.

Step 5: A proper habitat is where the gecko should be.

If you want to monitor its feces, eating, drinking, and shed, it's best to start with a breeder style habitat. The gecko can be placed in a proper display habitat later on.A tank that's bigger than 20 gallons will be appreciated by the leopard geckos. The bigger the tank, the better!

Step 6: There is a humidity hide.

leopard geckos can't go down into a nice moist burrow in captivity.Place some type of leopard tupperware or tub that can hold humidity in the habitat. To open the box, you need to wet down some paper towel and then put it inside. This important step will remove stuck shed and prevent the gecko from losing its toes due to a very dry habitat.

Step 7: Take care of your eyes.

The impaction or eye damage may be caused by the ground walnut shells, sand, or some sharp, small, substrate the gecko was on.Carefully rinse the eye with warm, clean, and distilled water to prevent chlorine or other unwanted chemicals from entering the eyes.

Step 8: Help it eat.

If the gecko is blind or has bad eyesight, it may be hard for them to find food.If it's gross, rub that juiciness on their snout and around the mouth, and the gecko will back up.The feeding reaction will hopefully be triggered when you stop.hatchlings won't eat after about a week

Step 9: The gecko needs to have access to calcium dust.

It can be found at a pet store or online.Supplemental calcium is needed by leopard geckos since they don't get a balanced diet in captivity.Make sure the food is good for them. Not much can be done at home for a broken gecko bone, but providing plenty of calcium can prevent the bone from becoming broken, fractured, rubbery, weak, swollen, limp, or downright painful!

Step 10: Be attentive and patient.

Provide the animal with the best care possible and have patience while waiting for the gecko to complete its healing process; don't try playing with it during that time.
