How To Carve a Pumpkin Using Cookie Cutters

Pumpkin carving is a tradition dating back hundreds of years. The majority of people like to carve pumpkins with knives. Why do some kits come with nice designs when you can use cookie cutter kits? They can be used to create nice, crisp designs.Depending on the thickness of your pumpkin, you may not have to carve it at all.

Step 1: There is a round pumpkin.

The ribs and grooves should be minimal. You can get a traditional orange pumpkin or a white one.The pumpkins should not be called "Cinderella" style. The kind that are flattened are similar to doughnuts. The grooves and ribs are too deep.If the pumpkin is dirty, wipe it down with a damp cloth.

Step 2: The pumpkin can be cut out with a knife.

Some people like to cut the bottom out of the pumpkin so that they can put it over a candle. To scoop out the seeds from the pumpkin, make sure it is big enough so that you can reach inside. If you want to prevent the lid from sinking into the pumpkin, angle the knife towards the stem.Cut a V-shaped notch into the lid if you're cutting the top part out. When you put the lid back on, this will help placement. If you are cutting the pumpkin's bottom out, make sure to angle your knife into it.Don't cut a notch, and discard the part you cut out.

Step 3: Take out the seeds.

You can use the plastic scoop that came with your pumpkin carving kit, a large metal spoon, or an ice cream scoop to do this. The seeds can be saved if the fibrous pulp is discarded. You can either dry them or roast them.

Step 4: The wall of the pumpkin is about 1 inch thick.

Finish at the edge of the opening after starting from the base of your pumpkin.Use long, even strokes, and discard the pulp.Continue around the pumpkin until you get to where you started. It will get rid of the last bits of fiber. The best spoon to use for this is one with a thin edge.Use the longest part of the spoon. This will allow you to leave more grooves.

Step 5: Cookie cutters made of metal should be obtained.

Plastic ones are more likely to break than flimsy ones. You can use any shape that you want.Stars are one of the most popular shapes, but you can use other fall-inspired shapes as well, including pumpkins, bats, and leaves.Animals are shapes that have nothing to do with fall.Bigger cookie cutters are more likely to warp.

Step 6: The cookie cutter is against the pumpkin.

If you want a child to help you carve the pumpkin, use a hammer or mallet to hit the cookie cutter until it pierces the skin. While you child does the rest, this will keep the cookie cutter steady.

Step 7: At least half of the rubber mallet should be in the pumpkin.

If you don't own a rubber mallet, you can use a regular hammer.Place a wooden block over the cookie cutter. The wooden block can help distribute the pressure. The pumpkin's curved surface causes some parts of the cookie cutter to not go into the pumpkin all the way.Don't pound the cookie cutter all the way in.It's best to leave at least 18 inch sticking out.The cookie cutter is likely to go all the way through a thinner pumpkin. The cookie cutter may not go all the way through if the pumpkin has thicker walls.

Step 8: The cookie cutter needs to be removed.

Use a pair of pliers to get the cookie cutter out.The pliers can be used to grip different sides of a cookie cutter.

Step 9: Cut the shape out with a small knife.

The pumpkin carving kit has a small saw that you can use.Make sure to cut through the pumpkin with short, up-and-down sawing motions.

Step 10: Remove the shape from the pumpkin.

Put your hand inside the pumpkin and push it against the shape until it pops out.If you can't get the shape out, gently tap it with a hammer until it pops out.

Step 11: It needs to be cleaned up.

There may be fibers stuck to the inside edges of your shape.Pull them away with your fingers or use a metal spoon if you see them.

Step 12: Add more shapes by repeating the process.

The space between each shape should be at least 2 inches.Pumpkins can become too weak and break.

Step 13: You can put a tea light inside your pumpkin.

If you cut the top out of your pumpkin, place the tea light inside it, light it and put the lid on it.If you cut the bottom out of your pumpkin, place your tea light on the sidewalk and place the pumpkin over it.If you don't want to use real candles, you can.Use a battery-operated one instead. Some can look realistic.A glow stick is an alternative to candles. They come in many different colors and are safe.
