How To Change Your Mercruiser Water Separating Fuel Filter

An old fuel filter can slow you down.If you need to replace your fuel filter, it should be replaced every season.

Step 1: The boat's batteries should be disconnected or turned off.

Step 2: If equipped, turn off the fuel supply valve.

Step 3: The work area has a fan in it.

Step 4: Put absorbent towels under the filter to catch fuel spills.

Step 5: The old fuel filter needs to be removed.

Step 6: Look for debris or water in the old fuel when you pour it into a white bucket.

If you notice a lot of dirt or water in your old fuel filter, it's time to replace it.

Step 7: The old filter O-Ring needs to be removed before the filter mount can be inspected.

Step 8: inspect the surfaces where the o-ring will have to seal

Step 9: The damaged filters should be replaced.

Step 10: Look at your new filter.

Step 11: Clean fuel can be put into the filter.

Step 12: Make sure the o-ring is positioned on the filter.

Step 13: Put a little motor oil on the o-ring.

Step 14: The new filter needs to be spun onto the filter brackets.

Step 15: The filters instructions suggest using the filter wrench to snug up the filters.

Don't over-tighten a filter.

Step 16: Clear the area of fumes from any split fuel.

Step 17: You can open the fuel valve.

Step 18: The boat's batteries can be connected or turned on.

Step 19: Check for fuel leaks when you run the boat.
