How To Clean Acrylic Furniture

What do you do if a piece of furniture gets dirty?Make sure to be gentle in order to keep your modern pieces sharp for a long time. It's a good idea to avoid using harsh cleaning chemicals and abrasive cleaning tools.Mild soap and water is the best option.

Step 1: To clean up dirt and spills, make a solution of warm water and soap.

In a bowl or container mix 1 part mild liquid dish detergent with 3 parts warm water. When it starts to look sudsy, stir the soap and water gently.Don't use window cleaning liquids or cleaning solutions that have ammonia on them. They damage the plastic and make it look cloudy.

Step 2: Use a soft cloth or sponge to scrub the furniture.

Put a clean cloth or sponge in the solution and wring out the excess water.Rub it all over the furniture using circular motions. It is important that you use a clean cloth or sponge. You can scratch the plastic very easily if there are bits of debris caught in the fabric or if you use something with an abrasive surface.Don't use paper towels to clean furniture. They can make it look cloudy if they scratch it.

Step 3: To clean the soap suds off the furniture, use a cloth or sponge.

Clean water can be placed in a bowl or container. If you don't have soap suds left, you can wipe down the plastic furniture with a soft cloth or sponge in the water. If it fits, rinse the furniture in the shower or pour water over it.

Step 4: Before you use the furniture, let it air dry.

Place the furniture in a dry place.Wait a few hours before you put the furniture back to use.Don't use a towel to dry the furniture because it can leave streaks on the plastic surfaces.

Step 5: You can choose a commercial cleaning solution.

Look for cleaning solutions that are formulated for certain types of plastic.All-purpose household cleaners that aren't specifically made for plastic should not be used.If you use a cleaner that contains ammonia, it will leave your furniture looking cloudy.

Step 6: Dust and debris should be wiped off with a soft cloth.

Take a microfiber or cotton cloth. You don't want to scratch the piece when you polish it, so you should gently brush off all the surfaces of the furniture. An old cut-up cotton shirt is great for dusting.

Step 7: Rub the cleaner on the plastic with a microfiber cloth.

A small amount of the cleaner should be applied to the furniture.Press a clean microfiber cloth against the cleaner and move your hand in circles to rub it all over the furniture. You can use a clean cotton cloth if you don't have a microfiber cloth.

Step 8: Apply more cleaner as you go until you clean the whole piece.

Next to the first section you cleaned, put another small amount of the cleaner on a piece of furniture.Rub it in with a microfiber cloth. You have to repeat this until you finish cleaning your furniture. If the plastic is cloudy after you clean it, it may have scratches. Some different fixes can be tried if you check the section on removing scratches and cloudiness.

Step 9: To remove scratches, use a plastic polish kit and microfiber cloth.

The plastic polish can be applied to the scratched areas.Rub the polish into the plastic using circular motions to buff the scratches off. There are different types of plastic polish for scratches. If your furniture is scratched, buy a couple different formulas and start with the lighter one, then move onto the one for bigger scratches if that doesn't work.

Step 10: Remove minor cloudiness with an electric buffer and plastic polish.

A small amount of plastic polish should be applied to the polishing wheel.Press the polishing pad against the plastic after turning on the buffer. If you want the plastic to look shiny again, move it up and down and left to right over the cloudy area.If you don't use plastic polish on your furniture, you will end up damaging it further.

Step 11: To remove deep scratches, take the furniture to a professional.

Call up some furniture repair professionals in your area and ask if they can fix your furniture. To get the deep scratches polished out, take the piece into them.A company that specializes in commercial furniture repair could be a good bet.
