Virtual Private Networks are increasing in popularity as more and more users seek anonymity online.One of the more popular solutions is OpenVPN.It's compatible with most operating systems.You will need a special client to connect to an OpenVPN server.You will need configuration files from your service provider.
Step 1: The client should be downloaded.
You will need a program called a "client".The connection between your computer and the server is handled by the client.The client can be downloaded here.The "Installer" download link matches your version of Windows.You need to know if you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.Look for the "System type" entry when you press Win+Pause.
Step 2: It's a good idea to run the installer.
After you download the installer, run it.You should confirm that you want to run it.All of the settings should be left at their default.All of the necessary services will be installed.
Step 3: The configuration files are needed for the server.
You should get a set of configuration files from any server that is running OpenVPN.A security certificate is one of the files.The server information will be contained in the other file.If you have a PureVPN service, there may be multiple server configuration files.You can find the configuration files on your service's support page.ZIP files can be used to package the config files.You may still be able to connect if you can't find the configuration files.You can see Step 9 of this section.
Step 4: The configuration files should be copied to the correct folder.
The C:Program FilesOpenVPNconfig folder contains the key and configuration file.It may be located at C:Program Files.
Step 5: Select "Run as administrator" when you click on the OpenVPN shortcut.
You need to run OpenVPN as an administrator.Before starting it this way, make sure OpenVPN isn't already running.
Step 6: Go to the System Tray and click on the OpenVPN icon.
You can see a list of server based on the files you copied into the OpenVPN config folder.
Step 7: Select the server that you want to connect to.
The server will prompt you to enter your usernames and passwords.When you signed up for the service, you received the credentials.
Step 8: You should confirm that you're connected.
There is a notification that says you are connected to the server.The internet traffic will be sent through a virtual private network.
Step 9: Don't have configuration files to connect to the VPN.
You might still be able to connect and download the correct files.Go to the website and enter the address of the server.When prompted, enter your password and usernames.If prompted, select your profile.When prompted to accept the certificate, select "Always"
Step 10: "Tunnelblick" is available for download.
A program called a "client" is needed to connect.The organization doesn't have a client for Mac.The mac version of Tunnelblick is free.Here you can download Tunnelblick.Click on the "Latest" link to download the installer.
Step 11: Click the downloaded one.
This will open the new window.Click the file to open it.You should confirm that you want to open the program.Tunnelblick will be installed if you enter your administrator information.
Step 12: You can download your files.
configuration files should be available to download.It's much simpler to set up Tunnelblick with these.The files can be downloaded from the support page.
Step 13: The tunnelblick is to be launched.
Once you've downloaded the files, start Tunnelblick.Before the client can start, you'll be prompted to select your new configuration files.Click "I have configuration files" and then select "OpenVPN Configuration(s)".Choose "Tunnelblick VPN Configuration(s)" if the files are specifically for Tunnelblick."Open Private Configurations folder" is what you should choose.This will open a new window.Put your configuration files in the folder that opens.
Step 14: The tunnelblick icon can be found in your menu bar.
To connect to it, select a server.When you connect to the server for the first time, you'll be asked for your administrator password.
Step 15: Enter your credentials.
When prompted, enter the password you were assigned by the service.You can save them to your Keychain.
Step 16: If prompted, you can download the certificate.
When you connect to the server, you may be asked to download a security certificate.This certificate is required to connect.
Step 17: The client needs to be installed.
You will need a client in order to connect.There is an OpenVPN client in most distributions.There are instructions for other distributions.For others, the process is the same.Go to the Terminal and type apt-get.The administrator password is required to start installing.
Step 18: You can download the configuration files for your service.
The configuration files for OpenVPN are provided by most VPN services.These files are needed to connect to the service.These files can be found on the service's support page.The files are usually in a ZIP archive.The files should be in an easy-to-access folder.
Step 19: From the terminal, start OpenVPN.
Go back to the terminal.You don't need to change locations if you extract the files from your Home directory.You can navigate to the different directory if you extract the files from it.The following command is needed to start OpenVPN.
Step 20: Enter your credentials.
You'll be asked for your password and usernames.When you signed up for the service, you received these credentials.Your password won't show up as you type it.
Step 21: Wait until you are connected.
The status of the connection will be updated by the terminal.You are connected when you see the message.
Step 22: You can download the app.
This is the official client for the operating system.It can be downloaded for free.root access for your device is not required.
Step 23: You can download the configuration files and certificates.
You should be able to find the files on the support page.You can open the ZIP file with a File Manager app.
Step 24: The configuration file is downloaded.
When prompted, choose which app you want to open the file with.
Step 25: You need to enter your credentials.
You have to enter your password and usernames into the screen.Next time, tap the "Save" box to log in easier.
Step 26: You can connect to the internet with a tap.
The configuration file will be used to connect to the server.The process can be verified by checking your public address.It should be the PureVPN server, not the real one.
Step 27: The app can be downloaded.
You can get it for free from the App Store.You don't have to be jailbroken to use the app.
Step 28: You can download the files on your computer.
You have to email the configuration files to yourself.You can access them from your device.You can download the files from the support page.If they are in a ZIP or RAR format, you can extract them.
Step 29: You can email the configuration files to yourself.
There is a new email on your computer.Attach the configuration files to the message.You can open the email on your device if you send them to yourself.
Step 30: The Mail app has a configuration file attachment.
If you want to use the configuration file, open the message that you sent to yourself."Open in OpenVPN" is what you need to do.
Step 31: You can enter your credentials by clicking the "+" button in the OpenVPN app.
When you signed up for the service, you received login credentials.
Step 32: You can connect to the PureVPN.
You will be asked to allow OpenVPN to connect to the internet.Allow it to continue.
