How To Create a Spider Man Web Shooter Prop

If you are a fan of the amazing Spider-Man, you may have dreamed of having your own web shooter like the ones Peter Parker designed to aid in his fight against the bad guys.Good news! You can!You can put together a prop web shooter with a few basic materials. It isn't like the real thing, but with the right touches it will look just as good as the ones from the comics or movies.

Step 1: The basic shape of your web shooters can be sketched on a piece of paper.

The main wrist piece of your web shooters is what you want them to look at.A more complex shape is what your wrist piece might be.It is a good idea to sketch out a design on a blank sheet of paper. No matter what shape you choose, your outline should be the same length of your palm and wrist.Just come with your own original design, or take inspiration from your favorite style of web shooter from the comics. If you need to make changes, sketch your web shooters in pencil.

Step 2: To make a template, cut out your design.

Carefully guide your scissors along the lines you drew to avoid making mistakes. You will have a template that you can use to recreate your design with your crafting materials. If you decide to make a second web shooter prop, you can use the same template.

Step 3: Cut 2 identical wrist pieces from 5mm craft foam using your template.

Place the design you just cut out in the center of the sheet of foam and run your pencil lightly around the edges.Cut along the pencil lines to create the same shape out of foam after removing the paper. To make the wrist piece for your other hand, repeat the process with a second piece of foam.Craft foam can be found in the arts and crafts aisle at most major grocery stores and super centers. It is possible to use gray or black foam. You can always paint it later if you can't find foam in one of these colors. You might not be able to get your scissors through the thick foam.If you have a lot of resistance, consider using a utility knife. Before you ask your parents, be sure to ask them.

Step 4: Cut 12-16 3 cm out of 5mm foam.

The easiest way to do this is to draw a single rectangular shape on a piece of paper, then cut out the shape and use it as a template for your foam pieces. As the wrist straps for your web shooters, make as many as you need to fit around both wrists.Measure your wrist in centimeters and divide the number by 2 if you don't know how many you need to cut. This will let you know how many you need.

Step 5: If you want your foam pieces to be a different color, paint them.

After brushing one side of each piece with a coat of craft paint, allow them to dry for a few minutes.Paint the opposite side after flipping over the pieces.Spider-Man's web shooters are usually gray or black in the newer comics and movies. If you want, you can add a few accents in red or another color. You are free to modify your web shooters as you please.Use your imagination and have fun with your project.

Step 6: The foam pieces should be Glued together with the wrist pieces.

Lay out your foam pieces side-by-side on your work surface so that they look the same when you are done.Press the line of hot glue onto the inside edge of the piece next to it.Let the glue dry for about 5 minutes after you glue it all the way down the line.To make sure the glue dries securely, you need to glue 2 pieces together. If you have never worked with hot glue before, ask a parent or older sibling for help.

Step 7: Attach it to the wrist straps.

To match the length of the foam pieces, cut 2 soft strips and 2 rough strips to the same length.Hot glue is applied to the back of each strip.Press a strip to the inner face of one of the pieces and stick the other in the opposite direction. For second web shooter, do the same thing. You can find it at your local craft store. If you want to trim it yourself, make sure you get the uncut kind. The web shooters should be facing the opposite direction. It will be possible to put on and take off your web shooters if you add Velcro.

Step 8: Cut out 2 pieces of 3mm foam.

This piece will have a circle at one end.If you want your web shooter to reach from the wrist strap to your palm, you need to measure the rectangle.Glue one to the back of each wrist piece after you cut out the pieces. You can either make your piece black or paint it silver.Attach a piece of metal wire to the backside of your Trigger piece if it doesn't lay the way it's supposed to.You can bend it into a shape that will fit your hand.

Step 9: To make a nozzle for the webbing, glue a straw to each wrist piece.

Take your scissors and cut two pieces from the end of a plastic drinking straw. You can fit the straws into the web shooters by cutting a rectangular notch at the top of the foam.Put glue on the bottom edge of the straws.Adding a webbing nozzle to your web shooters is optional, but will give them a more realistic look.

Step 10: Cut pieces of the pipe into smaller pieces.

The pipe should be marked in regular intervals to show where each piece will begin and end.Use a hacksaw or similar tool to cut it into segments.Avoid accidents by working slowly and carefully. For this style of web shooter, you can either make the pipe segments completely encircle your arm or concentrate them in the area on the inside of your wrist. To bring your design to life, be sure to cut an appropriate number of pieces. The number of segments you cut depends on the design you choose and the size of your wrist.

Step 11: The pipe segments are silver.

Stand the pieces up on a piece of paper.Shake your spray paint can a few times to make sure the paint is thoroughly mixed, then press and hold the button on the back while waving the nozzle over the pvc in smooth, slow strokes.Make as many passes as necessary. This will take a bit longer, but you could also paint your pieces by hand.To give your web shooters a realistic finish, choose a metallic type of paint.

Step 12: Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes.

You need to dry the pipe segments before you work with them.If you don't do that, the paint may smudge on your hands, clothing, or other objects. To speed up their dry time, place the pieces in a warm, dry place. The other components can be put together while the PVC is drying.

Step 13: Wear a pair of wrist straps.

Attach the strip to your wrist by cutting a roll of soft Velcro into it.A second strap is needed to go around the middle of your forearm. When you are done, peel off the backs of the wrist straps and stick the squares onto the inside of them.Attaching the opposing pieces will allow you to unfasten your wrist straps quickly.Your wrist straps should be no further apart than the length of your segments.

Step 14: Attach the 2 strips of Velcro to the pieces you cut.

Take what is left of your strip of rough Velcro and place it in 2–1 in (1.3– 2.5 cm) squares.Attach a square to the top and bottom of each pipe segment. You will need double the amount of squares to cut the pipe segments. If you have 6 segments, you need a total of 12 squares of Velcro.Make sure you have enough Velcro to cut all of the squares, along with the wrist straps.Pick up a little more just in case.

Step 15: Attach the pieces to the wrist straps.

All you have to do is place the pipe segments around the straps. You can position them all the way around your wrist or group 3-4 together on the inside of your arm, just over your palm. You will be ready for action once your web canisters are locked and loaded. If you want to make a second web shooter prop for your other hand, double up on the amount of materials you buy and repeat the preceding steps.
