Use a tape measure to measure the cut.Swing the door to the edge of the carpet or threshold until they touch, then measure up from the floor to a point that would provide proper clearance.Use pencil marks along the width of the door at the measured height to make sure there is no error.

Place the door onto the saw horses after removing the hinges with a screwdriver. To not scratch the door, drape towels over the sawhorse beams.

Use a straightedge to draw a line through the marks. This is the cut line.Score the line with a utility knife.Press hard and cut into the wood.If you make a deep cut along the line, this doesn't have to be exact.

The door should be taped off with masking tape.If you want to cover the center of the door, apply tape 6 inches from the line. The finish on the door will not be scratched when you run the saw over it.

Put the saw blade to the inside of the line. The edge of the base plate is measured. There are a number of marks along the width of the door.If the marks are done correctly, they will be on the masking tape.Use a straightedge to mark a line.

Use masking tape to line up your straightedge. You want it to act like a fence for your circular saw.You can make a straight cut by using the edge of the base plate.

At the beginning of the cut mark, push the base plate against the fence and place the circular saw with a blade that has no less than 18 teeth per inch.Don't allow the blade to touch the wood. The saw should be turned on and pushed into the wood. The saw cuts along the line if the straightedge is used. The piece will fall off if the saw is pushed all the way through.
