How To Decorate a Kite

Kites are great as both toys and decorations, but they can look a little boring without fun decorations. If you are designing a kite for a special occasion, like Sankranti or Pongal, consider creating a beautiful border around it with rhinestones and charms.Tissue paper and contact paper can be used to make your kite look like stained glass. You can make your kite look silly by giving it a funny face.

Step 1: To make your kite stand out, glue a border on it.

You can add a strand of rhinestones to your kite.Measure the edges of your kite and cut strips of border to match. After applying a long, thin line of tacky glue on the kite's edge, stick the row of rhinestones onto the edge.Pressure should be put on to keep the gems in place. If you don't have any strips on hand, you can glue them on individually. You can find them at your craft store. It is possible to use a lace border instead of rhinestones.

Step 2: There are plastic charms for pizazz.

Attach plastic charms to the inside of the kite's border with a sheet of plastic.Try to create a pattern with the charms. The inside edge of the kite border is filled with charms.Get a pack of regular, non-sticky charms if you can't find any plastic ones.Attach charms to your kite with hot, craft or school glue.

Step 3: If you want to make the kite shiny, finish it off with some sequins.

The glue should be in the center of the kite.Pick a few bright and shiny sequins to put in the center while the glue is still wet.To make sure that the sequin stays in place, apply a small amount of pressure to them.Wait for the kite to dry before you use it.If you would like, you can use this kite as a decoration. This type of kite decoration is good for celebrations.

Step 4: There is a sheet of printer paper on top of the tissue paper.

There is a sheet of tissue paper on the flat surface.Once you have smoothed it out, place a piece of printer paper on top, setting it away from the edge of the tissue paper.Use a ruler for more precise measurements.Make sure the edge of the tissue paper is smooth.

Step 5: The copy paper has an X-Acto knife on it.

Cut a strip of the printer and tissue paper with a knife. After you have cut the strip, repeat the process.Make sure the paper rests on your initial cut.To remove the tissue paper strip, hold the ruler and slice downwards with the X-Acto knife. If you don't mind the edges of your paper being a little odd, you can use scissors.

Step 6: Cut the strips into smaller squares.

Cut your long strips of tissue paper into small, square pieces with a pair of scissors.Don't worry if the pieces are not the same.If you want your kite to look like a stained glass window, have your paper squares be slightly different sizes. For later, set the colored squares aside.

Step 7: Attach strips of contact paper to your kite.

Take note of the dimensions of your kite as you measure it.Cut out strips that match the length of your kite using a sheet of paper and scissors.Measure and cut each strip to make sure it is at least 1 inch wide.Place the strips on the kite. You can apply pressure to the paper with your hands.Make sure that the strips are lined up exactly with the edge of the kite, since you are working with 4 different strips.

Step 8: You can put tissue paper inside of your kite.

Place the squares that you cut out on the center of your kite.Once you are happy with their placement, use a glue stick or dot of craft glue to secure each square into place. The stained glass effect is achieved by having the squares overlap slightly.Glue on the squares if you don't want to have an exact pattern. To add an extra design element, cut strips of contact paper to create the window panes.

Step 9: There are 2 eyes on the kite.

Take a set of craft eyes and put them away.If you want the face to be exact, place the eyes on the ruler. If the eyes are even before glue is applied, you should position the kite.Only use a dot of hot glue or craft when doing this.Glue the eyes in place without measuring if you don't care about the details of the face being exact.

Step 10: Permanent marker is used to draw on a nose and mouth.

Take a measurement below the center of the eyes.A small, dark triangle can be drawn onto this spot with a permanent marker.A curvy line is drawn below the nose to represent the smile. These dimensions may be different depending on the size of your kite. The nose should be in the center of the kite.

Step 11: To make a bow, cut a small hourglass out of paper.

To figure out the dimensions for your paper bow, measure the top edges of your kite.If you have a length in mind, sketch an hourglass or bow shape onto a smaller piece of colored paper.Cut the paper bows with scissors or an X-Acto knife. The bow should be 1.5 to 2 inches long if the top edge of the kite is 10 cm.If your kite is large, make the bows at least 1 inch thick.

Step 12: Attach a paper bow to the kite.

Attach a dot of craft glue or hot glue to the center of the paper bow.Press the bow onto the upper edge of the kite.Attach each bow with a small amount of pressure. If you want your bows to look more exact, set them on the kite first.
