Adding throw pillows to your sofa can breathe new life into your living room or bedroom. With all the choices, it can be overwhelming. There are a few tips to consider to help you find your way and have fun creating a new look with the simple addition of pillows.

Step 1: A bold and vibrant look can be achieved with pillows with contrasting colors.

Pick 2 colors, opposite of one another on the color wheel, that are already present in your room, and stick to them when choosing pillows. It is possible to pick different shades of your complimentary colors. The most common color combinations are orange and blue. The color wheel has red and green opposites on it.The boldest combination of colors is yellow and purple. If you already have a lot of colors in your space, use black and white.

Step 2: To tone down a room, choose neutral tones in your pillows.

The calming effect of neutrals leaves an impression of sophistication. They can bring balance to a room which is already neutral. If you want to combine them both, choose either warm neutral or cool neutral. The brown family has neutral colors of red, orange and yellow. The grey family has neutrals that are blue and green.Natural fiber pillows, like Jute and navy blue, can be included in neutrals.

Step 3: For a modern look, choose pillows in shades of one color.

Look around the room for a color that you would like to draw attention to and buy pillows in different shades of that color.Take a sample of the color with you when you shop. There is a large tree in your painting.Your guests' eyes will be drawn to the same painting if you choose pillows in shades of green. The rug under the coffee table has a deep plum color that you have always wanted to bring out.To give your rug its due, choose pillows in shades of that plum.To make the room feel cohesive, use a color that is already in your space. If they are the same color, they don't have to match it.

Step 4: If you want to draw attention to your sofa, pick pillows in all solid colors.

The centerpiece effect can be enhanced by choosing bold complimentary colors. If there is a lot of patterns and prints in the room, solid colors are a good choice.Keep it simple by using a variety of solid colors.Use different shades of blue.

Step 5: A sense of depth can be created by combining large prints and small prints.

The larger prints should be on the outside of the sofa, with the smaller prints closer to the middle.Large prints have bolder designs.Small prints have small designs and repetition.

Step 6: As a focal point, choose one special pillow.

Place a pillow with an ornate design, a word, letter, or image, in the middle of the sofa, with several complimentary pillows on each side, for a personalized look.Ropes or beads can be found in pillows. The focal pillow should be based on the season. You can have a flowery pillow for spring or a Christmas-themed pillow in the winter.

Step 7: To create an eclectic look, choose pillows that are in a variety of shapes and fabric types.

Consider shapes other than square. You can add texture to your arrangement with these variations. You should have fun and mix it up.A look in pastels can be softened by velvet, which is classic and regal in bold primary colors.Cottons and linens are modern and crisp. The room has a cozy feel. There are pillows that are oblong, rectangular, and circular.

The look of your pillows isn't the only contribution. They should be supportive and comfortable.All-foam inserts don't provide much support.

Step 9: Place pillows on your furniture.

Choose large pillows if you have a large couch. If you have a small couch, choose smaller pillows.

Step 10: Determine the number of pillows you want.

The sofa has about 4 to 6 pillows on it.Don't get too carried away. You want your couch to be usable for you and your guests. You can use an even number of pillows for a traditional look.If you are after a more eclectic look, choose an odd number of pillows and have different amounts on each side of the couch.

Step 11: On the outside of the sofa, place the largest pillows.

In descending order of size, arrange the rest of the pillows. If you want to highlight one pillow, place it in the middle of the sofa and brackets with 2 other pillows on each side.Stack the largest pillows in the back to make sure the smallest pillow is in front.

Step 12: For a traditional look, keep the pillows symmetrical.

The pillows are usually bought in pairs. The pillows are on the same side of the sofa, but in different places.

Step 13: For a bohemian look, choose asymmetrical placement.

Place pillows that please your eye and throw tradition out the window. There are different pillows on each side of the sofa.Don't use pairs at all if you put them in different spots.
