How To Don't be loud.

People tell you to be quiet.Do you speak without thinking and end up regretting it?Do you want to know how to turn off the noise in your head? The good news is that anyone can be quiet. It takes a lot of time and patience.Follow along if you want to know how to be quiet.

Step 1: Think before you say something.

People who are loud do not have this skill. When you are in a situation where you just want to say something, take a moment and ask yourself if what you say will help the situation. Will you be giving people information that they need, making people laugh, or offering words of comfort? If you don't think anyone will benefit from what you say, then keep it to yourself. One rule to follow when you first start is to say at least one thing. You can say one of every three or four things if you work on being more quiet.

Step 2: Do not interrupt.

Unless you think what you say is crucial to the conversation, don't interrupt a person while he or she is talking.Let's face it.When is that the case?It is rude to interrupt people and disrupt the flow of the conversation. If you really have a comment to make or a question to ask, then make a note of it and wait until the other person is done talking to see if what you have to say is still relevant. If you just let people talk, you will be surprised at how many questions will get answered.

Step 3: Instead of talking about yourself, ask questions.

If you are working on being more quiet, you will most likely talk on and on about yourself or the things that interest you instead of letting other people share their ideas.Ask people questions to gain insight about the topic you are discussing and to learn more about them, from what their hobbies are to what they like to do for fun.You don't have to ask questions that make people uncomfortable.Remember that the conversation is more about saying that you care about and are interested in the other person's thoughts, feelings, and point of view and less about sharing your take on things.

Step 4: Say something if you count down from ten.

If you think of the most amazing comment to ever make, give it ten seconds.Give other people time to chime in and to keep you from saying what you want to say if the idea suddenly sounds less appealing. If you want to air your grievances, this is a great technique. It is possible to keep yourself from saying something you will regret. You can count down from five if you become a pro at this.It is possible to see whether or not you should keep quiet.

Step 5: Carefully listen.

If you want to be quiet, you have to listen. When someone is talking to you, make eye contact, pick up on important points, and try to read between the lines to figure out what the person is really saying and how he or she is feeling.Don't fall victim to distraction like text messages and let the person talk.Ask questions that help the person flesh out their ideas, but don't ask something off- topic which could confuse them. You will be less compelled to dominate the conversation if you work on being a good listener.Balance your talking and listening time is a good rule of thumb.A balanced conversation is good for you.

Step 6: Stop complaining.

If you find yourself spending a lot of your time talking about things that annoyed you today, such as the horrible traffic you faced this morning, the nasty email you got from a friend, and the cold this winter, you are not alone. It might be helpful to consider what the other person is going to say.Where can the conversation go?Will any result be productive? What is the other person's opinion of you and your words?Writing down the things you can't change in your journal will make you feel better. Is it really necessary to complain out loud?If you need to talk about a real problem, that is fine. You need to complain just for the sake of having a conversation.

Step 7: The focus should be on your breath.

If you want to start talking without a reason, focus on your breath.Paying close attention to the rising and falling of your breath will help you breathe more deeply and evenly.Listen to what is happening around you.If you want to say so badly, focus on how you are thinking and feeling. This technique will make you realize that talking is not important.

Step 8: Take some time to process what you hear.

This isn't the best way to tackle the situation because you may be the kind of person who has an instant reaction to something and wants to blurt out everything that you're thinking. You will be able to speak less and ask more correct questions if you take the time to process what is happening. It will give you time to be your own internal editor and to not let out all of the extra stuff that isn't doing anyone any good.

Step 9: Find a quiet hobby.

It is possible to be more quiet when you are around people. One way to practice being quiet is to find a hobby where you can be alone.Try painting, creative writing, yoga, songwriting, stamp collecting, bird watching, or anything else that requires you to be quiet and not say anything. As you process the words in front of you, reading can help you be quiet.Try not to say anything while you pursue your hobby.Go for two hours. Then three more hours. Is it possible to go a whole day without saying a word?

Step 10: You can release your energy in other ways.

Some people say too much because they feel like they have so much energy and don't know how to let it go.It is possible to get rid of all the extra stuff in your head by saying all of the things on your mind.Running can help you get some exercise and get rid of the extra energy. It's possible to take long walks or cook.Whatever works for you.

Step 11: Fight the urge to chat.

Most of what you say isn't important and talking online only fills your life with noise. If you really wanted to talk to your friend, you could do it over the phone or in person.Do you want to go on g-chat to see what your 28th best friend is up to?Go for a walk when you close your device.

Step 12: Break from social media.

Better yet, take a break from using social media all the time. These sites are filled with noise, with people trying to impress each other, and with meaningless words that you may feel compelled to respond to.If you are really addicted, you should only use your social media sites for 10 minutes a day.Wouldn't it be better to hear what your friends have to say in person instead of hearing from strangers? All of the extra voices that you hear should be turned off.

Step 13: Write in a journal

Write in your journal at the end of the day or week.It can help you write down those extra thoughts, stay quiet, and feel like you have gotten everything off your chest without telling your friends.Writing about what happened during your day will allow you to ask more questions and write about the deeper things on your mind.If you only write one journal page a day, you will be much quieter.

Step 14: Take a break.

Meditating is a great way to quiet your mind and body.Take 10 minutes every morning to find a comfortable seat in a quiet room, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing.Focus on relaxing your body one part at a time and notice what you hear, smell, feel, and sense as you sit there. If you focus on being in the moment and appreciate the quiet, you will be able to have a more centered, quiet day.Meditating can give you more control over your body and mind.

Step 15: You should appreciate nature.

Take a stroll.Go to the beach. There is a garden on the other side of town. You can take a weekend trip to the woods. What you have to do is get closer to nature. All of your doubts and words will melt away when you see the beauty and power of something that is more permanent than you are. When you are standing at the base of a beautiful mountain that has been in existence since the beginning of time, it is hard to keep talking about what you think will be on the next math quiz.Nature time can be plugged into your weekly routine. You can write down your thoughts in nature.

Step 16: The music needs to be turned off.

It is possible that music will make it more fun to study, go running, or commute to work.Music can make you feel a bit more frantic and excited.Loud music with lyrics can make noise that will bounce around in your head and keep you from being in control of your day.

Step 17: Give it some time.

You won't be quiet overnight if you're a naturally loud person. You will be able to become more quiet sooner than you think if you make an effort to talk less and focus on being a good listener.Relax, have patience, and enjoy the feeling of all the extra noise draining from your head and vocal cords.
