Fishing was added to Terraria during the 1.2.4 update that allowed players to get high-level items with minimal mining and crafting.Just by fishing alone, you can get all the equipment and weapons you'll need to beat the Wall of Flesh and Hardmode.To start fishing, you will need a fishing pole, a bug net, and a body of water.You can learn to fish in Terraria.
Step 1: Pick up wood.
Cut down as many trees as you can.You can point your mouse or stick at the point where the tree and the ground meet.Then press the attack button.When you get close to the tree, it will drop wood and almonds that will be placed on your inventory.Depending on what platform you are playing on, as well as the control scheme you use, the specific attack button is different.The attack button can be found at the bottom of the screen.It's usually the right shoulder button.It's best to get 200 to 300 blocks of wood early on since a lot of the early-game items use it as a crafting ingredient.
Step 2: There is a workbench.
You can open the inventory screen and switch to the crafting menu.A basic workbench is how to make it.Once it's made, you can place it on a flat surface and leave your inventory screen.To open the crafting menu, you have to first open your inventory by pressing the Esc on PC, XBOX, and Nintendo consoles.To switch to different menus, use the mouse or the right and left shoulder buttons.The crafting menu can be found in the lower left corner.
Step 3: Make your first fishing pole.
If you want to move your character close to the workbench, open your inventory and switch to crafting.You have to look for the wood fishing pole on the items that are available for crafting.After you've finished crafting it, you can put it on your inventory.There are four craftable fishing poles in the game and the wood fishing pole is the easiest to craft.The Sitting Duck's Fishing Pole requires lead/ iron anvils and metals like Lead, Iron, and Demonite bars to craft, as well as the reinforced fishing pole, Fisher of Souls.You can get the Golden fishing pole and Hotline Fishing pole when you are in Hardmode.
Step 4: The frame of a house needs to be built.
You'll need to build a house to get the merchant.Start by building a 9 block by 7 block frame/enclosure made of wood.Put the wood pieces in the hot bar and then place the block where you want it.Press the right button on the controller to place the block.You need to leave a 3 block space for a door.
Step 5: You can make a wooden door, chair, table, and walls.
After making the house's frame, go back to your workbench and open your inventory to make a wooden table, chair, door, and wall pieces.Place them in your inventory once you're done crafting them.
Step 6: The furniture should be put in the house.
Place the chair and table in the hot bar inside the house frame/enclosure.Place the table anywhere inside the enclosure.Place the chairs at the end of the table.
Step 7: There are walls inside the house enclosure.
Attach the wall pieces to your hot bar.Click or press the right button to place a piece of wall behind the enclosure.You should cover the entire back of the house.
Step 8: Kill some animals.
Go outside after building the house.Use your sword to kill as many as you can, and then collect the gels that they drop after they die.During the day, slimes are found in all the biomes.Since these monsters are weak, you can use your axe and pickaxe to kill them.For the first time in your world, you're usually going to find a few slimes in the area.
Step 9: There is a torch.
You can return to your workbench once you've accumulated 10 to 15 gel.Open your inventory and make as many torches as you can.
Step 10: Light the house up.
The torches should be placed in the hot bar.If you want to place the torch in the house enclosure, you have to go inside.Click or press the button to place the torch.The image is of fish in Terraria Step 9.
Step 11: Continue to build houses for other people.
You can make another 5 houses to accommodate other people.Although the merchant is the only requirement for fishing, you're still going to need the others to access advanced crafting and healing features as well as weapons.You can save time later on in the game by making their houses in advance.
Step 12: Pick at least 50 silver coins.
Coins are dropped when you kill monsters, break jars, and open chests all over the world.If you don't have 50 coins in your inventory, the Merchant NPC will come to your world and take shelter in one of the houses you built.The merchant needs 50 silver coins.Once you defeat bosses or have certain items in your inventory, other npps will usually start spawning.
Step 13: You can talk to the merchant.
Once the merchant has spawned, you will get a notification.Go to your house and look for him.If you want to talk to an NPC, stand next to them or press on a console.
Step 14: Purchase a bug net.
Make your character stand close to the merchant and click on him.The bug net is one of the items he's selling, if you click on the shop option.You will need at least 25 silver coins to purchase one.
Step 15: You can catch insects with the bug net.
Attach the bug net to your hot bar.Press the attack button if you want to catch the animal.You'll want to focus on catching worms, snails, slugsgies, and buggies because of their high bait power.
Step 16: Go to the water.
You need to make sure that you are fishing in an area with at least 75 continuous tiles/blocks of liquid in order to get something to bite the bait.You can fish in any body of water if they adhere to the 75 continuous tiles/blocks requirement.The easiest way to fish is in the ocean.You'll need to be careful since you're probably going to see some monsters on your way there.It will take some time to make your own fishing area.After defeating a couple of bosses, you might want to look into this.You can fish in lava and honey if you have the right fishing pole and bait.
Step 17: There is a body of water.
You can't fish in water.Stand close to the water but not in it.
Step 18: The Fishing Pole needs to be upgraded.
Put the fishing pole in your hot bar.
Step 19: bait into your slots
When you have your inventory open, place your bait in one of the slots below it.
Step 20: Wait after you cast your line.
You can cast your fishing line from your hot bat if you have the bait and fishing pole with you.While standing in the water, you can fish while flying, riding a mounted slime, or even while wearing Walk-on-water boots.
Step 21: Take the fish.
You need to wait for the bobber to move in order to know that you've caught something.You should have the item in your inventory if you click or press the attack button once it moves.
