How to fix a broken pull cord for a strimmer.

If you're in a hurry, this Instructable will show you how to replace the twine in the garden strimmer with something more substantial. If you jump to Step 1 you will get instructions.

The strimmer broke after about 5 seconds, my father said.I decided to try it because I didn't believe it could be so short-lived.After threading up the strimmer, I plugged it in and pulled the gun.

The strimmer motor screamed as the cord popped off after they tried to cut a few grass stems. How long did it take? It's probably not even five seconds. You should always believe what your father says.

Remove the plug from the electricity supply before doing any work on power tools.Strimmers are designed to cut grass, but they can't tell the difference between grass and food.

Press the two catches on opposite sides of the spindle to remove the cover.

The spring behind it needs to be removed. If you want to return the strimmer to its original condition, keep these.

The strimmer's capacity affects the length and thickness of the ties we use.The hole which is used for the strimmer cord can be measured. This was about 6mm in our model. Most cases, the ties should be enough to reach from the central spindle to the edge of the guard.

We will connect two cable ties to form a loop around the central core of the spindle.Make sure you get the ties the right way around, they only lock in one direction.

Once the ties are connected, thread the "tail" of each tie through one of the holes. The ties should be pulled tight so that they are in contact with the central spindle. The strimmer will tighten them up.

When the motor spins, most strimmers have a blade that cuts off excess twine. It's a good idea to trim the cable ties before starting the motor as they are thicker than normal twine. The plastic can't be left around the garden.

The clip-on cover should be replaced when the ties are trimmed correctly. There is a hole in the centre that will allow grass to pile up inside.

If you find that the ties break off quickly, you'll need thicker ties.Hopefully you will realize that your strimmer is earning it's keep.

If your strimmer line breaks quickly, you should use the wrong one and buy the correct weight. Most people don't bother to check to make sure the one they buy for their machine is the right one. It's a good idea to check the wattage and RPM of your electric strimmer or engine size on a petrol model to make sure you're getting what you need.Don't use cable ties as a replacement, they're a different type of plastic with different properties that can cause serious injury to you or others nearby.

I saw a way to make a PLASTIC blade to replace the string for a strimmer. Is it from the plastic of an old bucket?I can't find it right now.The bottom of an old bucket was cut into the shape of a blade that would fit inside the trimmer guard.I think it said the trimmer would trim the shrubs.
