How To Follow Your Dreams

We have goals in life that we want to accomplish.They may be small or require a lot of work.It may not be easy to follow your dreams.You won't achieve a long-term goal if you just sit and dream about it.You need to commit to a vision, carefully plan, and learn how to stay focused for months or even years.You can reach your dream with organization, motivation, and self-discipline.

Step 1: You can discover your passion.

Maybe you want to be a writer because you envision being featured by Oprah and traveling the world to promote your book on a big publisher's dime.These ideals have nothing to do with writing a book.It doesn't end with the writing of a book.Then comes editing, finding a publisher, and using your own money to promote your book.To make it clear that you need to be motivated by more than ideals is not to discourage you.You need to push through the hard times and be passionate about your dream if you want to keep going.Do you think you can achieve your passion?Write down your goals.Which one is more important to you?Which one do you like the most?Be specific.I want to teach isn't very specific.A goal that is detailed, measurable, and allows you to plan is what you need.A better goal is, "I want to be a professor in English and teach at a college by the year 2025." Think about what skills you might need to accomplish this goal.If you are not comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people, you will need to work on your confidence.This is a skill that you will need to work on.

Step 2: Imagine a life that is perfect.

visualize your ideal life is one way to discover your passion and what you really want your life to look like.You can either picture your life or write it on a piece of paper.Do you know what you are doing for a career?Where are you located?Who are you with?What do you look like?What are your clothes?What do you think about it?Are you happy?It was filled?When you wake up, you can start writing out your ideal day.You can get more clues about the life you want.

Step 3: A long-term vision can be created.

Consider how your goal meshes with a long-term vision.This will help you refine your ambitions.How do you want to live in the future?What kind of work would you like to do?How would you like to spend your time?Take everything into account.Your long-term goals should be shaped by your vision.There are many different types of colleges.Which one is best for you?A large university?What about a community college?Is it a private, liberal arts school?Take advantages and disadvantages into account.You're more of a small-town girl if you say that.Teaching at a private school in a college town would make you feel more at home.Your ideal day starts with you waking up at 10am.What type of lifestyle would allow you to do that?Is that compatible with your plan to become a teacher?Is it possible to hold all your lectures in the afternoon?

Step 4: Break the vision into stages.

It can be hard to reach a long-term goal if it requires years of work.Many people give up because it takes too long.You need a plan.The task should be broken into parts.You will be able to focus on each part at a time, giving you more manageable goals to work towards.You have to get a bachelor's degree in order to become a professor.What other stages will there be?How long will the process take?Find it.

Step 5: Plan for each stage.

You will need a plan for the smaller stages of your goal.You don't have to think about these plans now.Some will arrive later.The most important thing is to be organized, know what you have to do, and see how your daily or weekly tasks fit into the larger picture.There is a long road ahead of you in becoming a professor.Break it into smaller parts and plan.You can get a bachelor's degree in English for four years, apply to graduate programs for one year, and then apply for a PhD.

Step 6: Don't let self-discipline get in the way of practicing.

Ambitious people are able to stay focused on their goals.This requires discipline.Even though you don't always feel like working, it means working towards your goal.When you want to sit on the couch and watch tv, it means hitting the books.Making time for your goals every day is a way to improve your discipline.If you are in school, you will either be at class or studying from 8am to 5pm every day.Developing habits will help you reach your goals.You can either wake up earlier or read literature in your spare time.Eliminating habits that are hurting you is the same thing.When you need to work, turn off your wi-fi.Make the time.Make time to devote to your goals if urgent tasks are keeping you from your plan.Wake up earlier and spend more time on it.You can use your spare time on weekends or evenings.

Step 7: You should periodically review your goals.

You should periodically review where you are on the road to your long-term goals.Over time, our wants and desires can change.You may have started on the path to becoming an opera singer, but after a while, you don't like it as much as you used to.Maybe it's time to rethink your goal.Sometimes goals need to be refreshed.Opera didn't work out.It's possible that you have to rethink what you want in life.If you want to know if anything has changed, go back to your long-term vision.Reconsider what you want to do.Sometimes our goals can only be minor changes.You took a class on comparative literature in college.You would like to study English and Spanish literature.Your overall goal is the same, but you have changed a small point of focus.

Step 8: You should celebrate progress.

The ride is part of the joy of achieving your dream.Enjoy it.When you move closer to your long-term goal, make sure to celebrate.Do you have a Masters' degree?You can have a fine dinner with champagne.When the long-term goal is a work of years or decades, recognizing progress helps us stay motivated.If you celebrate progress, you can stay motivated and keep your eyes on the long-term prize.Some studies show that if we see the steps as learning opportunities, we will get more motivation.Don't focus on what you've accomplished when you review your progress, instead look at how you have grown.

Step 9: You should keep focused on your goals.

For a long period of time, focus is how we stay on task with an object, goal, or activity.When it comes to short-term goals, focus can be easy.It can be difficult to sustain motivation for long-term goals.Try to stay focused.You should be able to maintain your focus by practicing good work habits, reviewing goals, and celebrating progress.It is a good idea to remind yourself of what you are doing.Why do you want to achieve your goal?You should keep your long-term vision in the forefront.

Step 10: You should surround yourself with motivators.

The people around you can be used to your advantage.Friends, relatives, co-workers, and peers bring out the best in you, so surround yourself with them.They can give you a needed critique.If you need advice, ask the people you trust.Listen to what they have to say.If they point out any mistakes, try to be humble.

Step 11: Think in terms of reality.

Highly motivated people think logically.Success may take a long time or even years.Even after all of their work, there is a chance of failure because they recognize that progress will come slowly.admitting defeat is not owning that there is a chance of failure.You can temper your ambitions with reasonable expectations.Many people never reach this goal.They never finish school.Some people complete a PhD to find that positions are very competitive and never land a job.In case of failure, knowing this ahead of time will help you.

Step 12: Comply with failure.

There will be setbacks in pursuing your dream.Don't let a problem ruin your plans.Learning to deal with failure in productive ways is another trait of highly-motivated people.It's a good idea to avoid catastrophic thinking.A person who thinks catastrophically about failure probably doesn't have reasonable expectations.A failure doesn't close all doors.Some may close, but others are open.Finding the other open doors is a way to cope with failure.There is a backup plan.Your plan to become an opera singer didn't work out.That doesn't mean your career in music is over.Is it better for you to sing in a chorus?Maybe you could use your skills in music to become a voice teacher?As necessary, make adjustments.You were going to go to medical school.You did a pre-med degree, volunteered in hospitals, and did everything the right way.You couldn't get into a program.You can either apply again or come up with a new plan, like going to nursing school.

Step 13: Use setbacks to learn.

Use your failures to improve and grow.Take stock of what happened instead of being depressed about it.Why didn't you succeed?Don't repeat the same mistakes if you understand your failure.People who are highly motivated are always learning.They read, analyze, and find new ways to do things.Growing as a person is linked to learning.These habits need to be cultivated.Look closely at yourself.Be honest.Why did you not get accepted to medical school?Is it your B- in biology?Maybe you could have written a better essay?Plan a solution to the problem.If you want to get a better grade, take biology again and study harder.If you want other people to read it, rewrite your admissions essay.Plan to apply to the same programs next year.
