How To Format an SD Card on Android

You can learn how to get rid of the data from your device.You can format the card for internal or portable storage if you have the newer versions of the operating system.

Step 1: Attach your card.

The process on each device is different.In some cases, you will need to remove the battery and the back cover of your phone to find the SD slot.When you insert a special tool, some devices have a smallSD tray that pops out from the edge.If you see a small hole next to a tray on your device, you can use an unbent paperclip or insert the tool that came with it.

Step 2: You can use the power on your device.

If you just inserted the card, hold the power button down on your phone until it turns on.

Step 3: You can open your settings on your phone.

You can find the wrench or gear icon on the home screen or the app drawer.

Step 4: Go down and tap Storage.

Step 5: Click on the card to see it.

If you see options under the name of the card such as Erase or Format, you should move to the next step.If you don't see any of the options, you can tap the name of your card on the screen.There are two options in the pop-up menu, "Format as Internal" or "Portable".

Step 6: You can format the card or erase it.

Everything will be erased from the card.If you want the card to act like an internal hard drive, choose eitherPortable orInternal.

Step 7: To confirm, tap Format or Erase.

The data on the card will be erased.Your card can now be used as either internal or portable storage.
