How To Get Your Computer to Recognize Your iPod (Windows)

Problems with the Apple Mobile Device Driver can cause Windows to be unable to recognize an iPod.Before diving too deep into that process, you should make sure that your software is up to date and that you have functioning cables andusb ports.You can check the status of your Apple mobile device driver once that is done.You can either restart the Apple Mobile Device Service or manually update the driver.

Step 1: Attach the device to the PC with a different cable.

There is a possibility that this is not the case.The most common filepath is C:Program FilesCommon Files.The filepath is likely to be "C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers" on newer operating systems.

Step 16: If the file is named "usbaapl64", it is for the 64-bit version of Windows.

Click "open" to return to the Have Disk page with the full filepath displayed.You may be in the wrong folder location if you don't see the file listed here.Make sure you double check your filepath.

Step 17: The driver software should be installed.

Click "Next" and "Finish" as prompted.Now that Windows has installed the driver, it's time to update it.

Step 18: If you don't already have it, open it.

Once the download is complete, your device will show up in the app.You can restart the Apple Mobile Device Service if you still don't see your device.

Step 19: Go to the store and close it.

The red X is in the upper right corner.

Step 20: Turn off your device from the computer.

The listing for the Apple Mobile Device Driver will disappear if you still have the device manager open.

Step 21: Hit Win+R.

The Windows "Run" command will be opened by this.

Step 22: Click "OK" if you want to enter "services.msc".

This will open the Windows Services console.

Step 23: Click on the apple mobile device services you want to view.

The services appear in descending order.

Step 24: Next to the startup type, choose Automatic.

The menu is located halfway down the page.

Step 25: Click it to stop.

There is a button below the menu.The Service Status will showtopped after a moment.

Step 26: Click the start button.

There is a button to the left of "Stop".The Service Status will display running after a moment.

Step 27: Click OK.

This will close the window and save your settings.

Step 28: You should restart your computer.

Your changes will take effect if this is correct.

Step 29: Attach your device to the computer.

When connecting the device to the OS, it will launch iTunes and show up in the software.It's possible that you'll need to launch iTunes manually, but the device should still be listed in iTunes.
