How To Grow a Rose Bush from a Single Stem or Cutting

The best time to grow roses is in early spring or late fall.Pick the area in which you want to grow the rose bush.Make sure your rose bush gets plenty of sun and drainage from the water.

Step 1: The knitting needle can be used to make a hole.

If you want to hammer the knitting needle all the way into the ground, place the tip in your chosen spot. The knitting needle needs to be pulled out of the ground. This is a nice hole to put your rose cutting or stem in.

Step 2: The hormone powder can be added.

Gloves are used to protect your hands from thorns and germs.Along the stem of your cutting, make a few small cuts.Keep the gloves on while you use the growth hormone.

Step 3: Cut into the hole.

Put the cutting into the hole you prepared with the knitting needle.Push the stem all the way into the hole until the bottom of the flower head touches the ground.Push the stem down so that at least five of the leaves are not in the ground. It will look like a small plant.

Step 4: The cutting was done in the house.

The jar should be placed over the cutting and water. In nine months, the cutting will have taken root and will be a new baby rose bush for your garden.

Step 5: It's best to keep a summer cutting well watered.

It is important to water the cutting regularly if you are propagating during the summer. If you are propagating in the fall, leave it alone until the spring and remove the jar when you see new growth.
