How To Hang a Valance

It's a great way to add style to your windows. It hangs over the curtains. If you want to block out light in a room or keep the room open, you can hang a valance over the curtains.Start by measuring the window.Put up the valance with a few tools after installing the brackets.

Step 1: First, measure the spots for the curtain rod brackets.

This will make it easier to measure the height. You need to place the curtain brackets at least 2 inches from the edge of the window on either side.To make the windows look long, put the curtain brackets markings at least 4 inches from the top of the window. To make sure you don't confuse the curtain rod brackets with the markings for the valance brackets, use a red pen to mark the spots. The curtain rod brackets are shorter than the valance brackets. If you have curtain rod brackets that are less than 2 inches long, make sure you use 4 inch brackets.

Step 2: The location for the first piece of furniture.

The curtain rod marking has a 1 inch ( 2.5 cm) gap between it and the first brackets. To mark the location, use a blue pen or pencil.

Step 3: The location is marked.

From the first mark to the other side of the window, measure.Outside of the curtain rod marking, place the marking for the second brackets. The length between the two markings should be the same.Measure the distance between the two markings to make sure they match.

Step 4: To confirm the line up, use a level.

Hold the level between your hands and place it in a horizontal position. The bubble should be centered in the middle of the level. The two markings are the same height.

Step 5: The curtain rod brackets have to be installed.

The curtain rod has brackets.Attach the screws for the brackets with the marking you made on the wall.Put the curtain rod brackets up first so you can use them as a guide. You can skip this step if you already have curtains up over the window.

Step 6: The power drill can be used to make a hole in the wall.

The brackets should be lined up with the wall markings.Hold the brackets in place with one hand and then use the other to drill the holes. The brackets are made of screws rather than nails. The screws need to be secured with a power drill.

Step 7: Put the drill in the other brackets.

The first and second brackets need to be put in.Attach the screws with the drill and line up the brackets. On the outside of the curtain rod brackets, the brackets should appear level and at the same height.

Step 8: The curtains need to be hung.

Attach the curtain to the rod and hang it in the brackets. The curtain should be adjusted so it is distributed evenly. The curtains need to be put up first so they can be seen.

Step 9: The rod has a valance on it.

You can slide the rod through the valance if you hold it in one hand. The rod should hold the valance down.

Step 10: Attach the rod to the brackets.

The rod should be placed on the brackets. The brackets need to be strong enough to hold the valance.Just outside the curtain rod is where the valance should hang down straight.

Step 11: You can use a steamer to smooth out the wrinkling.

You can run a clothing steamer over the creases to remove them.If you want to add style and detail to the window, the valance should be flat and over the curtains.
