How To Hang an ENO Hammock

hammocks are used for leisure and sleeping while camping or in the comfort of your home or yard. The hammocks are made of nylon taffeta that is lightweight, comfortable, and quick-drying and hold up to 400 pounds. How you suspend your hammock will be dependent on where you want to use it.You can learn how to hang your hammock.

Step 1: There are two trees 12 feet apart.

When you are outdoors, look for two trees that are at least 10 feet apart.Solid bark and no overhead dangers should keep the trees alive.Choose trees that are at least a foot in diameter. If your hammock is too low to the ground, don't use trees for mounting it if they are closer together than 10 feet. Before hanging up your hammock, you should check with the park administrators.Hanging hammocks can affect the health of trees.

Step 2: Wrap the slapps around the tree.

Attach one of the ENO SlapStraps to each of your trees.About 5 feet from the ground, the straps should wrap around the wide part of the trunk.Attach a SlapStrap by wrapping it around the trunk of a tree and holding an end in each hand.Pull until the strap is tight around the tree trunk after threading one end through the loop.Do this with both straps. It is possible to use your own rope or strap system instead of ENO's SlapStraps, but they may be more difficult to put up or less safe.

Step 3: Extra precautions should be taken to protect trees.

To avoid any negative impact on the trees you hang the hammock on, make sure you are using SlapStraps properly.Try placing sticks between the strap and the tree.Take a few sticks from the ground in your area. They should be the same size and length as one another. They need to be thick enough to stick out from the bark of the tree.Put the sticks between the strap and the tree, all the way around, about a hand's width apart between each one.

Step 4: Attach the hammock to the straps.

Use the carabiners on each end of the hammock to attach it to the trees. One of the five loops has a carabiner in it.The ENO hammock has an aluminum wiregate carabiner at either end.If you want to put the gate on one of the loops, you have to open it.It's easy to adjust the height of the hammock with the five adjustment loops. If you want your hammock to be from the ground, choose a higher or lower loop.

Step 5: The hammock needs to be adjusted.

Once the hammock is attached to the trees, slowly put weight on it.If it is at the right height, lay down fully in the hammock. The ground should be higher if you touch it while in the hammock.Attach the carabiners to the SlapStrap. If you don't have any more loops, you need to choose trees that are farther apart. It should be lower if it is difficult to get into your hammock.Attach the carabiners to the lower loop.Purchase Atlas or Atlas XL straps if you don't have any lower loops. The ends of your hammock should be placed in loops so that they are level, or with a slight difference that is comfortable to you while you are lying down.

Step 6: Two trees are needed for mounting.

Between the two trees, hang your hammock. The trees should have sturdy trunks that are at least 12 inches in diameter.Due to the extra adjustment loops, hammocks can be hung between trees that are farther apart. It is ideal to have a distance of at least 10 feet between the trees.Trees should be at least 10 feet apart. You should check with the administrators of the park or natural area to make sure you hang your hammock first. They might have rules about hammocks to protect trees.

Step 7: Atlas straps are wrapped around the trees.

Use the two straps that come with the Atlas system to secure the hammock.Wrap each tree with a strap.Pull the multi-adjustment end through the end that has the label and a single larger loop to secure an Atlas strap. The strap needs to be tight around the tree trunk. It is possible to use other straps or ropes to hang an ENO hammock in this way, but it may not be as safe or easy.

Step 8: Sticks can be used for extra tree protection.

If you are using the Atlas straps to hang your hammock, make sure you install them correctly to avoid any damage to the trees.Stick the tree and strap together to make them less likely to come in contact with one another.Pick a few sticks from the ground in your area. The diameter and length of your forearm should be the same. The sticks will protrude out from the bark of the tree if the diameter is thick.Put the sticks between the strap and the tree, all the way around the trunk, about a hand's width apart.

Step 9: The hammock should be secured to the straps.

Attach your hammock to the loops on the Atlas strap with carabiners. The hammock can be adjusted by changing the loops of the carabiners. The Atlas straps have a combined total of 30 adjustment loops, while the Atlas XL has an additional 10 loops and 54 inches of length for maximum adjustment options. The ENO hammock has two carabiners at the ends. Before you put weight on your hammock, make sure that they are closed and listen for a click. To test the height and evenness of your hammock, sit and lay down.If your hammock is too low to the ground, a lower loop, or one of the carabiners should be moved to a different loop.

Step 10: If you want more lightweight flexibility, use the Helios straps.

If you need an extra lightweight design for backpacking or have a difficult space for hanging, try the ENO Helios straps.Extra adjustability is achieved by using a bury splice design. If you want to use a thicker strap, pull the thin end through the end with a strong Dyneema cord.Pull the long end of the cord between your hammock and the tree if you want to adjust the hammock higher or lower. The 400 pound maximum that other ENO straps are designed for is not used in the design of the Helios straps.

Step 11: Two sturdy structures are needed for the hanging kit.

In an area with a lack of suitable trees, hang a hammock more permanently indoors. You can use a hanging kit to mount the hammock between two structures. You can attach the hammock's anchor 50 inches off the ground if you find a space with a distance of 112 inches between your two structures.Hold your hammock up in the space between the structures to make sure, or lay it down on the floor for reference. The hanging kit from ENO is designed for use with strong wooden structures, like the wooden studs in a home wall.If you want to hang your hammock from other structures, you should choose different screws and fittings. The hanging kit can damage trees.

Step 12: Studs are needed for the hanging kit anchors.

If you hang your hammock from two walls, you need wooden stud for the hardware. If you have an electronic stud finder, use a hammer and nail. You can feel the impact by tapping along the wall with a hammer and placing your hand above it.The sound will be dull when you tap where the stud is.You can use features in the room to find out where the studs are.If you measure 16” away from the center of any known stud, you can find the next one.To find out if there is a stud, hit a thin nail into the wall. There is a stud if it is less than 12 inch into it.The hollow sheetrock is not suitable for holding up your hammock.

Step 13: Use a drill to drill into the wall.

To mark where you want your hammock to hang from each wall, use a pencil. Then use a 5/16” drill bit to drill a hole in the center of each stud.Make sure you drill into the center of the stud by making several test holes close together on the wall.To mark the center, measure 34 inch in from the edge of the stud, as a standard stud is 1 12” wide.Use a drill with a 5/16” drill bit to drill into the stud.

Step 14: Attach the carabiners with lag screws.

To tighten the hardware into the wall, use a 9/16” wrench or a socket driver. You will tighten the anchor with a lag screw. The lag screw needs to be tightened until the anchor is snug against the wall. The hanging kit has heavy-duty steel carabiners that you can replace the aluminum ones with.Attach the carabiners directly to the anchor to hang your hammock.

Step 15: A hammock stand is a good choice.

If you want a very simple process for hanging, use a hammock stand. If you don't have options for installing the hanging kit or using straps on trees, you should use a stand. For the easiest setup, purchase a hammock stand from ENO.Choose from a standard solo hammock stand, one that can hold three different hammocks, or a Roadie stand which can be held up by the wheels of a car.As long as the frame is 10 feet long, you can use other hammock stands for ENO hammocks.
