How to Increase Water Pressure in a Well-X-Trol by Hunker

A pressurized butyl tank is used to maintain water pressure. The pressurized air is kept out of the water storage area.As water from a well pump fills the Well-X-Trol, the diaphragm stretches and the air above it expands. When a plumbing faucet opens, the pressurized air in the Well-X-Trol forces the tank's stored water into the plumbing pipes. The water pressure in the Well-X-Trol is increased by raising the pressure sensor's cut on and cut out switches.

The well pump's circuit breaker needs to be turned off.Remove all the water from the Well-X-Trol.Close the faucet when the water stops flowing.

The Well-X-Trol tank has an air valve cap.The air valve cap should be turned clockwise by hand.

The Well-X-Trol's identification label should be inspected. The factory's air-pressure setting and the maximum water pressure are listed.

The Well-X-Trol tank has an air-pressure gauge. The Well-X-Trol has an air-pressure factory setting. The gauge needs to stay within 10 percent of the factory setting. If the air pressure in the tank exceeds the factory setting, depress the needle valve for 10 seconds and retest. If the Well-X-Trol tank's air pressure drops below 10 percent of the factory setting, add air to the tank with an air pump.

Use the correct screwdriver to remove the pressure sensor cover from the well pump. The water line between the well pump and the Well-X-Trol is where the pressure sensor mounts. The sensor's cut out and cut-on switches are usually made with 1/2-, 5/15- or 3/8-inch adjustment bolts. The adjustment bolts are turned by the proper size screwdriver.

The well pump's circuit breaker needs to be turned on.As the Well-X-Trol fills, look at the well pump's pressure gauge. If the pressure gauge exceeds the Well-X-Trol's stated maximum water pressure, you can turn off the well pump circuit breaker.Turn off the circuit breaker and increase the pressure sensor's cut-out switch if the well pump turns off before reaching the maximum water pressure.Rechecking the sensor's cut-out level will require draining the Well-X-Trol and turning on the well pump circuit breaker.
