Place your stones on the ground. You should move them around until you are happy with their position.

Make sure the stones are the same distance apart by using a tape measure. The final result will look better with this.

To mark their positions, spray paint the ground around the corners of the stone.Don't get paint on the stones themselves.

Put the stones to one side.If you are laying stepping stones on grass instead of gravel, you should dig a hole in the ground at least 20mm deeper than the stone's depth.

Sand and cement are used to mix your mortar.Put some water in the mortar so it sticks to a spade.

To check the stones are level with the ground, use a spirit level. You can place them with a rubber mallet.

If you want to walk on the stepping stone path, leave it for 24 hours. You can surround the stones with gravel if you are laying a stepping stone path.
