How To Make a Birthday Banner

Birthday banners are a great addition to a party, but store-bought banners can feel impersonal if you want to add the person's name.It is very easy to make a birthday banner. There are many ways to make such a banner.

Step 1: You can come up with a message.

Your message can be simple or complex. The "th" will be on one sheet, so here are some ideas to start.

Step 2: Come up with a layout.

You don't have to put the entire message on the same line.Changing the layout of your banner will make it look more interesting.Happy Birthday can be on one line, and the person's name can also be a different line.

Step 3: Pick a theme.

This will make it easier to choose your colors, patterns and fonts. You can come up with your own theme or match it to the party. If you want to use a train theme, consider making a banner with square pennants. The train cart will be made by each pennant. The front of your banner should have a shape of a train engine. For an underwater theme, use lots of greens and blues.Use bubble stickers around the letters.Consider what kind of princess this is.If your princess is from a specific movie, you might want to use the colors from her dress instead of the pink and silver princess colors.Take into account what the person likes.Do you have a favorite food, animal, book or movie?Pick one and design your banner around it.

Step 4: It's a good idea to play with the fonts.

You can use a standard block letter or fancy italic or cursive.Children might prefer larger, thicker fonts. If you have a banner with a party or theme, it's a good idea to match the font to it.If you are doing a princess themed banner, consider using a cursive or italic fonts.

Step 5: You can choose a color scheme.

This will make your banner look more interesting and unified.Something that looks less appealing might be a result of choosing random colors. You can use three different colors, such as red, yellow, and blue.Different shades of the same color can be used. There are three types of blue: light blue, medium blue and dark blue.Green, blue, and purple are cool colors. All warm colors include red, pink, orange, and yellow. There are metallic colors, such as gold or silver.White and black are alternate colors.

Step 6: Don't be afraid to use prints and patterns.

You can use patterned paper to make your banner unique.Solid colors and patterns can be combined.Solid blue and white have blue dots. You can combine horizontal stripes, vertical stripes and dots.Try to use the same colors. This will tie the design together and prevent it from clashing.

Step 7: Blank spaces can be used to add designs.

You will likely end up with blank spaces between and around the words when you create a banner. You can either leave them blank or fill them in with images that match the theme. If you are making a banner for a snow themed party, you can glue a snowflake onto the blank banner.Comic book strips can be used to add a border to a superhero themed party. If you don't want to sacrifice any old comic books, you can buy comic book themed paper. If you are making a banner for someone who likes the ocean, fill in the blank spaces with images of fish, shells, and sea bubbles.

Step 8: Pick your paper.

It is the best paper to use for this. You can find it at the arts and crafts store. It is in many different colors. You can use construction paper, but it won't be as durable.

Step 9: There are letter shapes on the paper.

Use the large stencils to trace the letters onto the paper. You should be able to fit several letters onto a single page. You want to be able to read the banner from across the room if the letters are high. You can erase the lines later if you use a pencil. You can put the outlines on the paper.Feed one sheet at a time through your printer.

Step 10: The letters need to be cut out.

You can cut things with scissors or a sharp knife. You should cut just inside the lines you made when tracing the letter. You have to erase pencil marks if you see them.

Step 11: Cut your string.

The string has to be long enough to fit all of the letters. This will let you hang the banner.

Step 12: Pick out your letters.

They can be very close or very far apart. If you put some space between the letters, they will hang better.

Step 13: Attach the letters to the banner.

The letters should be flipped over.Attach the top edge of each letter with a thin line of glue.Attach the string to the glue.If you're short on time, you can use clear tape to stick the string to the letters.

Step 16: You should have enough paper to spell out your message.

You will need a sheet of paper for each letter. You will need an extra sheet for the spaces between the words.

Step 17: Use thick paper to make a template.

The most popular shapes are circles, triangles, and rectangles, but you can use almost any shape you want. The template should be larger than the letters you are going to use.You need to be able to read it across the room. You can cut a shape into the bottom of a rectangle.

Step 18: Attach the template to the back of the paper.

You can use a pencil.Remove pencil marks that are still visible after you have cut the shapes out. These are your flags. The letters will be on these. If you can't find a pencil, cut the shapes out of the lines you made.

Step 19: Glue the smaller version of the pennant onto the larger one first.

A contrasting color can be used. The frame around the letter will be created by this.To cut your template smaller, take it and cut it by 12 to 1 inch.Attach the template to the center of each pennant by tracing it onto contrasting sheets of paper.Glue or clear double-sided tape can be used.

Step 20: Put your letters on the pennants.

The letters have to be several inches high, but smaller than the pennants. You will need one letter.A contrasting color could be used to make them more visible.Use large, letter stickers to decorate the letters.Paint the letters with stencil and paint.Glue the letters on the paper.glitter scrapbooking paper can be used for extra sparkle.

Step 21: Pick and cut your string.

A thin string can be baker's twine, yarn, or balloon ribbon. You should leave about 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) of string at the front and end of your banner so that you can hang it.

Step 22: There is some string that can be woven through the pennants.

The method works best on triangles and squares.A hole punch is used to poke a hole.Push the string through the left hole after weaving the ribbon through it.The back of the pennant has a string on it.The string needs to be pulled through the right hole. The string should be pushed through the left hole.Pull it back up through the right hole if you bring it across the back of the pennant. You have to keep doing this.

Step 23: The back of your banner is a good place to put the string.

Put the string across the back of the shape. It should be positioned about 12 inch below the top edge.Put it in place with a piece of clear tape. The shape should have tape going from one side to the other. If you are using a rectangular shape, you should tape the string down from the top edge.On top of the string, fold the top edge back by 1 inch.Attach it with clear, double-sided tape.

Step 27: To sketch out your message, use a pencil.

Try to get the rough shape and size at this point. You will be able to position the stencils later on.Remember to draw lightly so that the pencil doesn't show through the paint.

Step 28: Place your stencil where you want it.

Some stencils have a sticky back.Use painter's tape to tape the edges down if your stencil moves too much.

Step 29: Paint over a stencil.

The paint can be applied with a stencil brush or a foam brush. The paint can be applied using a light. You can always apply another coat of paint if you apply too much at once.If you apply too much paint at once, the paint will leak under the stencil and cause puddles.Use fabric paint if you are painting on fabric.

Step 30: The stencil should be moved to the next letter.

You may want to start by painting all the letters, then go back and do the missing letters. It will give you time to dry the paint, so you won't have to worry about accidentally touching it.

Step 31: The paint should be dry before you hang the banner.

Depending on the type of paint you used, it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours.Attach your banner to the wall with either taping or tacking.

Step 32: You can set the dimensions for your banner by opening a new file.
