There are hamster cages in the pet store.You can make your own hamster cage with a plastic bin, some supplies and a few tools.If you want your hamster to thrive in your home, you need to set it up with the right materials and equipment.It is possible to create a healthy environment for your pet if you provide adequate food, water, and bedding.
Step 1: There is a clear 40 US gal (150 L) plastic bin.
You can get a plastic bin with a lid from a store.It is recommended that you get a cage that is at least 30 15 - 15 in for each hamster.This will allow it to move around and play.The size of the cage should be increased if you want to keep dwarf hamsters together.There should be separate cages for Chinese and Syrian hamsters.

Hardware mesh can be purchased at a hardware store.The metal used in the mesh should be strong enough to prevent your hamster from chewing its way out of the cage.Measure the length and width of the container lid with a ruler.The mesh is the same size as the bin lid.The mesh will keep the cage cool.A pair of scissors is needed to cut the wire mesh.
Step 6: Zip ties attach the mesh to the lid.
You can thread the zip tie through the mesh if you want.Attach the zip tie to the cage by pulling on it.You have to attach the mesh to the lid at every hole.
Step 7: The excess ends on the zip ties.
The zip ties should be cut so they don't stick out.The hamster cage is no longer cold.Before you put the hamster in its new cage, make sure you set it up correctly.
Step 8: The inside of the bin should be wiped down with a bleach solution.
Put a bowl of water and liquid bleach in it.Wear a pair of gloves and dip a rag into the solution and wipe the inside of the bin, the mesh, and the lid.The inside of the cage should be dry with a rag or paper towel.If you want to prevent your hamster from getting sick from harmful chemicals that may get on the bin when it's being manufactured, you need to bleach the cage.
Step 9: A layer of bedding is placed in the cage.
The bedding will absorb the urine of the hamster.Purchase paper bedding online or from a pet store and pour it into the cage.Until there is a layer of 2–4 in (5.1–10.2 cm).Do not pack down the bedding so the hamster can burrow through it, use 6-7 inches and avoid using pine and cedar shavings.You can prevent your hamster from getting sick by using dye-free bedding.
Step 10: To give your hamster exercise, get a hamster wheel.
Even if there isn't a lot of room in your hamster's cage, a hamster wheel will allow it to run around and exercise.If you want your hamster to grow up to be healthy and strong, you need to make sure he exercises more than older hamsters.You can get an 8 inch wheel for Chinese, Syrian, and other large hamsters.
Step 11: Put a water bottle in your hamster's mouth.
You can buy a hamster water bottle online.Attach something to the back of the bottle.Attach the other side of the cage to the area your hamster can reach.Hamsters like fresh water, so empty the bottle and replace it every day.The hamster could drown if you filled the bowl with water.
