How To Make a Hamster Playground

A hamster playground is a great way to give your pet a break. It can be fun for you, your friends, and your family to watch it have fun with its toys.Make a big playpen out of cardboard boxes or find the biggest box you can to make a multi-level space for your hamster to explore. If you fill it with your hamster's toys, you can make a city out of smaller boxes and tubes. You can make a hamster slide from items you can find at the hardware store with the help of a parent or adult.

Step 1: Medium or large boxes are a good choice.

Two large cardboard boxes or four medium sized boxes can be used.Ask your parents to take you to the store. The boxes should be as clean as possible.Four medium boxes is enough for a pen with higher sides. For a small pet like a hamster, two large boxes will suffice.

Step 2: The box needs to be flattened.

If the store you got the boxes from did not already have them, flatten them out.If you want to make the bottom, you have to undoing the flaps that fold together.Once the boxes are broken down, it is a good idea to cut a corner where the two sides come together. If you are not allowed to use sharp objects without supervision, use scissors or a craft blade.

Step 3: The lids have to be cut off.

Cut off the lid flaps that used to be the tops and bottoms after you flattened the boxes.Once you have cut off the flaps, you can either use them for another project or discard them. After cutting off the flaps, you should be left with a long piece of cardboard. If you are using four boxes, flatten them and cut the flaps off of them the same way you would cut two big boxes.

Step 4: You can make four long strips.

If you start with two large boxes, cut them in half lengths. You can use a pen and a ruler to draw a line down the center. You should have four strips left.If you start with four medium-sized boxes, you can use the rectangular strips after you cut off the flaps.

Step 5: The slots should be cut in each strip.

Take each strip and mark out a line about an inch from the end.If you lay out each strip flat, the line should go from the top of the strip to the center on two other strips. The pen's borders will fit together. The pen won't be as stable if the slots are cut too thick.

Step 6: The pen should be put together.

If you have a pet, find an area of your house with a hard floor surface so it won't absorb any messes. If you don't want your hamster to eat anything, give the floor a quick sweep and wipe it down with a wet towel.Put the strips together so they are snug.

Step 7: Put your hamster's favorite toys in the pen.

Put any toys that are not in your pet's cage in its pen.Tubes, dens, and plastic balls are hamster toys.Cut out doors so the hamster can get in or out, or fold up the flaps of the boxes to make little hamster teepees.

Step 8: There is a large box.

Go to a nearby grocery store.Next time they go shopping, tag along with their mom or dad.Ask someone who works at the store if they have the biggest box in the back.If you get a box from the grocery store, make sure it doesn't have food, grease, or dirt stains.Stores that sell electronics are great because their boxes are usually clean.

Step 9: The box needs to be covered.

The towel should be placed at the bottom of the box.The bedding or litter should be covered with the towel. You can find these materials at your local pet store that is marked hamster-safe.Make sure the litter is safe for pets. The tough strands on straw can hurt the hamster.Cotton wool can get stuck in the hamster's toes and feet, so avoid it.

Step 10: Multiple levels can be created.

Use tissue boxes to create levels for your hamster.Cut out little doors for the hamster to get in or out if the boxes don't have tops and bottoms. If you use tissue boxes, make sure to get rid of all the plastic and sharp edges at the opening.

Step 11: There are toys and tubes in the hamster cage.

Whether you built a multi-level box playground or made a collapsible pen, make sure to fill your hamster's new playground with toys.If you keep toys and obstacles in your hamster cage that are not replaceable, grab them so it can play in its new playpen or box.To put treats in your pen, use a tray.Put them around the pen so your hamster can find them.

Step 12: cardboard tubes can be used to create tunnels.

To make tunnels for your hamster, use an empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls.Make sure they are big enough for your pet.Push the cardboard rolls into the other hamster tubes to create a bigger tunnel system.

Step 13: There are entrances and exits on boxes.

Don't forget to stock up on empty boxes, boxes that hold canned soda, and household cardboard boxes.Depending on the size of the box or pen you used for the playground, the smaller boxes will be larger.Make a little city out of doors for your hamster to explore.

Step 14: A hamster is on a slide.

Have your parents take you to the hardware store. There is a short length of plastic tubing for plumbing. The largest tubing you can find is the one with the longest circumference. You have two long slide shapes if you cut it in half length.A small wood frame or box can be used to make a ladder for the slide.Attach the ladders rungs with non-toxic glue.An adult can drill holes through the wooden frame with a hammer.A small square of wood is needed for the slide top platform.Attach it to a wooden ladder using screws or holes, or glue it together using non-toxic glue.If you want to attach the slide to the square, you have to drill holes through it and use a screw. The slide will fit better if there is a grooves in the platform. The screw should not poke through the top of the wood square. If you want to add some color to the slide, you can use food coloring and water.
