Many women want to dress up as Harley Quinn for Halloween because she is one of the most popular female villains in the Batman series.If you paid a lot of money for a costume, you would be as crazy as Harley if you could make one yourself.If you want to save money and make your own costume, here's what you need to do.
Step 1: One red and one black top should be marked.
For an "Arkham Asylum" inspired version, use two long-sleeve shirts, or two tank tops.Place the black shirt and red shirt on the work surface.To find the center of each top, use a ruler or tape measure.Use chalk or fabric pencil to draw a line.To draw another line away from the center line, use your ruler.The second line should be drawn to the left of the center line on the black shirt.The second line should be drawn to the right of the center line for the red shirt.
Step 2: The two tops should be divided in half.
To cut the second lines on the shirts, use sewing shears.Cut along the center lines.You will not have enough material for a hem if you cut on the center lines.If you want to make an even cut on the front and back of the shirts, you may need to pin them together.Redraw the center and second lines on the back of the shirts and separate them from the fronts.Save the extra fabric for the sleeves.
Step 3: The red half should be sewed to the black half.
To hide the extra fabric on the inside of the costume, pin the two halves together along the center line.If you want to sew a straight line, turn the shirts inside out.Attach the two shirts together with a straight line along the seam using a sewing machine and red or black thread.To secure them, backstitch the ends.To sew a straight line from the top to the bottom of the shirts, use a backstitch.Next, turn the shirt right-side-out.
Step 4: Attach the diamonds to the sleeves.
You will need to attach three diamonds to the sleeves of your shirt if you want a classic Harley Quinn look.Cut out three diamonds from your extra black and red fabrics.The diamonds should be about 2 inches tall and 1 inch wide.There is a partial-diamond pattern on the upper portion of the black sleeve.The diamonds should be facing out.There are three black diamonds in a partial-diamond pattern on the lower portion of the red sleeve.The diamonds should face out.
Step 5: The corset should be wrapped around your waist.
The "Arkham Asylum" version of Harley Quinn is more suited for those who are interested in mimicking it.There is a corset around your waist and a red-and-black tank top.Attach the tank top with red strings or belts.If you don't have a corset, take a black shirt with a sweetheart neckline and tie a belt over it.
Step 6: There are red and black jeggings.
There is a center seam that extends from the top of the waist down in between the legs and back up again.Pull out the thread that holds the two halves together.If you cut the jeggings, you will end up with a situation in which you don't have enough fabric to sew the two halves together.jeggings are made from a thicker material and are easier to work with than leggings.If possible, use jeggings made by the same manufacturer so that the two halves fit together more easily.The color halves that are different from the colors used for your shirt should be saved.Since the right arm of your shirt is black and the left arm is red, you should wear red pants and a black shirt.Excess material should be saved for diamond appliques.
Step 7: Put the two halves together.
The Jegging halves should be turned inside out and pinned together along the unstitched hemming fabric.From the waist, through the legs, and back up to the other side, sew a straight line.Use red or black thread.If using a sewing machine, backstitch the ends to keep them in place.If you are sewing by hand, use a backstitch.Put the pants in a bag.Before strutting your stuff, you should wear the sewn-together pants to make sure that there are no holes and that the seams hold as you sit, walk, and bend.
Step 8: Add diamond adornments.
Cut out the diamonds from the fabric.The diamonds should be larger than the ones used for your top.There are three black diamonds in a partial-diamond pattern on your red leg.There are three red diamonds in a partial-diamond pattern on the lower portion of your black leg.
Step 9: White is the color of your face.
Rub white face paint over your face.As much as possible, create a look.The base of your head is where the white cream should extend.You don't need to include your eyes, ears, or mouth.
Step 10: Black eye make-up can be applied.
Black is the color of your eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara.You can put a black eye shadow on your eye.Black gel eyeliner is applied to the top and bottom lids.You will need a gel liner for this look.Black mascara is applied to your upper and lower eyelashes.The eye make-up can be smeared with a moist cotton swab.It should look messy but still attractive.The black gel liner can be used to make "tear" lines.The gel liner should be applied with short, quick strokes from the lower lid line.Only make a few so that they look different.To smooth them out, Smudge them a little with your cotton swab.
Step 11: Wear black.
You can use blood red lipstick, but it must be dark.
Step 12: There is a small amount of blush on your cheeks.
To give your cheeks a hint of color, sponge the blush over them quickly.
Step 13: If you can't find black or red heels, wear black ankle boots.
Flat leather fashion boots are the best, but you could also go for boots with a short heel.You can either wear ankle boots or knee-high boots if you want to wear an "Arkham Asylum" version.There are one red and one black boots.If you don't mind permanently altering your cheap boots, you can use red fashion spray paint to color one boot red.The boot that goes over the black leg of your pants should be red.
Step 14: Wear black and red gloves.
The gloves have to be made from a thin material either way.The colors of your gloves should be changed.The back glove should correspond to the red half of the shirt.White wrist ruffles should be added to both wrists.The easiest way to do this is to wear white hair elastics around your wrists.
Step 15: Wear a hat.
If you plan on going for a classic look, this applies.There is a red and black jester hat.It will not match your costume.
Step 16: There is a blonde wig on.
If you want to go for an "Arkham Asylum" look or if you can't find a jester hat, this applies.There is a long blonde wig.Attach the wig to your head with high ponytails.There is a red and black ribbon around your hair.You can either use both red and black on both ponytails, or you can use red ribbon on the side that matches the black half of your shirt.
Step 17: There is a black eye mask.
Harley is wearing a mask that barely covers her eyes and nose.A black masquerade mask bought at a craft store should work, but if it appears to cover too much of your face, you can always trim it down so that you only see your eyes.The elastic band needs to go beneath your wig or hat.
