How To Make a Ninja Turtle Mask

The eye mask is an important part of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume.Donatello wears purple, Leonardo wears blue, Michelangelo wears orange, and Raphael wears red, they all wear the same color. The most basic mask is a strip of fabric, but you can also add a hint of green by making a lager face mask. You can learn how to make both kinds.

Step 1: Pick your fabric.

It would work best if the fabric does not break.flannel, fleece, felt and t-shirt material are great choices.Donatello is purple, Leonardo is blue, Michelangelo is orange and Raphael is red.

Step 2: Take a long strip from the fabric.

You want the fabric to be long enough so that you can wrap it around you head, tie it, and have a couple inches left over.Start with a 4-inch (10.16-centimeter) wide strip if this is for an adult. If it is for a child.Start with a wide strip.

Step 3: Look at the eye placement.

There are two ways to do this. You can make marks on the mask by measuring the distance between your eyes. You can drape the mask over your face and make marks with a pen.

Step 4: The eye shapes should be changed.

Put the mask on a flat surface. The almond-shaped eyeholes on the mask are where you made the marks. It is better to start with small shapes. If the holes are too small, you can always cut them larger.

Step 5: The eye holes need to be cut out.

Make a slit in the center of each eye, then cut out the holes that you drew.

Step 6: Make any changes to the mask.

You should tie the mask behind your head to keep the fabric from wrinkling. If the eye holes are too small, remove the mask and make them bigger.Cut the mask narrower if it's too wide.

Step 7: If you want, you can change the mask shape.

You could cut the ends of the mask at different angles. The ends could be cut to make them more tattered.Right between the eyes is where you can cut a small curve into the mask.

Step 8: A mask shape can be drawn on a piece of craft foam.

The mask has to be big enough to cover the forehead and below the eyes.Measure across and down the person's face to create a mask shape.A mask can be used as a template.Make sure the mask is tall enough so that you can place colored fabric across it.

Step 9: The mask needs to be cut out.

You can add a curve or grooves to the bottom of the mask for the nose bridge.Don't worry about the eye holes.

Step 10: Cut a strip of fabric.

The strip needs to be long enough so that you can wrap it around the person's head, tie it in a knot, and have a couple of inches left over.It needs to be wide enough to cover the eyes, but not the green mask.Donatello is purple, Leonardo is blue, Michelangelo is orange and Raphael is red.

Step 11: The fabric should be Glued over the mask.

The eyes would go right where the fabric strip was placed.Make sure that the fabric is centered, with equal amounts hanging off to either side.Attach the fabric to the mask with hot glue or fabric glue once you are happy with the placement.Let the glue dry before moving on to the next step for fabric glue.

Step 12: The eye holes need to be added.

Measure the distance between the person's eyes and then draw the eye holes on the mask. You can drape the foam across your face and draw your eyes out.The eye holes need to be almond-shaped.

Step 13: The eye holes should be cut out.

A craft blade is the easiest way to do this.If you don't have one, cut a slit in the center of each eye and draw lines around them.

Step 14: The mask has to be finished.

Put more glue around the eyeholes if the fabric is loose. The ends of the fabric strip should be cut at an angle. You could cut into them as well.
