How To Make a Paper Tree for Kids

Making paper trees is a great way to spend time on a rainy day. There are lots of ways to make paper trees. There are so many possibilities from pine trees to palm trees. You'll have a beautiful tree to display in your dollhouse, diorama, or on your desk once you're done.

Step 1: Draw half of a bare tree on a piece of brown paper.

A sheet of heavy brown paper can be folded in half.A bare tree shape is drawn along the fold. It's important to include the roots, trunk, and branches.Don't include leaves. The roots need to be straight along the bottom edge. You can find a template online if you don't know how to draw a tree.Add branches to the arm if you start with half of a Y-shape.

Step 2: Make a second copy of the tree by cutting it out.

First, remove the tree.Attach your tree to the folded edge by folding a second sheet of brown paper in half. The second tree should also be cut out.You will end up with two different tree shapes.

Step 3: Along one of the folded sides, glue the trees together.

Both trees should be folded.Glue one side of the tree. The first tree should be pressed against the second. The folded edges, trunk, roots, and branches all need to align.

Step 4: Stand the tree and let it dry.

If you want to have 3 pages, open the trees up.If you want the tree to form a T shape, you need to bend the first and last pages.Let the tree dry.

Step 5: A thin green paper is folded like a fan.

There is a sheet of thin green paper. You can use green markers, crayons, or paint to color printer paper. The paper should be folded like a fan.If you use construction paper, the leaves will be too heavy. The paper doesn't have to be green. For an autumn tree, try red, orange, or yellow.

Step 6: While the fan is still folded, cut a leaf shape out of it.

Draw a small leaf on the fan, making it about 2 inches wide and 2.5 inches long. While the fan is still folded, remove the leaf shape from it.This will give you lots of leaves. You should create as many leaves as you want. For a more realistic effect, use different shades of green.Cut the leaves in half to make them more realistic.

Step 7: Attach the leaves to the tree branches.

You can use a glue stick or liquid school glue. You can attach as many leaves as you want.Attach small clumps of leaves to a tree.If you get too carried away, your tree may tip over.

Step 8: Add an animal to the tree by cutting it out of paper.

Cut out a small bird, nest, owl, or squirrel from construction paper.Close to the trunk, glue it to your tree. The tree may tip over if the animal or nest is too far out on the branches.

Step 9: Allow the tree to dry.

How long it takes depends on the type of glue you used.A glue stick dries in a couple of hours. It may take a long time with liquid school glue. You should wait until the paper is dry.

Step 10: A green sheet of paper has a semicircle on it.

Use a pencil and a small plate to draw a circle on a sheet of green construction paper.Cut the circle out and fold it in half to find the center. The circle should be cut along the fold. You can save one of the halves for another project and keep the other half for this project.

Step 11: Attach the semicircle to the cone with glue.

If you want to get a cone shape, bring the straight edges of the semicircle together.Glue or staple the coneLet the glue dry before you move on.Liquid school glue or a glue stick will work here.

Step 12: Cut green tissue paper into squares.

Cut some green tissue paper into strips.Cut the strips into 1 in squares. This will save you a lot of time. You can use different shades of green.Try a green napkin if you can't find green tissue paper.

Step 13: Wrap a tissue paper around a pencil.

Place a piece of tissue paper over the pencil. To cover the pencil eraser, fold down the edges and make sure it is centered.

Step 14: Put some glue on the cone and press the tissue paper against it.

To apply glue to a small area on your cone, use a paintbrush.Pull the pencil away from the glue by pressing the end against it.The cone should hold the tissue paper square. You can use a glue stick, but you need to support the cone from the inside so that it doesn't crumple.

Step 15: The pencil can be used to glue more tissue paper squares to the cone.

Work 1 tissue paper square at a time.Place the squares close together. From one side of the cone to the other. It doesn't matter if you start from the top or the bottom. If you apply glue to the cone in small patches, it will dry quickly. The tissue paper will slide off if too much glue is used.

Step 16: To dry, set the cone aside.

Set your cone aside so it won't get bumped or knocked over once it's filled to your liking. The amount of time the glue takes to dry depends on the type of glue you use. There will be a wait for a glue stick and a whole day for school glue.

Step 17: Glue the cone to the roll.

Stand an empty toilet paper roll. The toilet paper roll should be coated with hot glue, tacky glue or white school glue.Put the cone on top and let it dry.If you don't have toilet paper rolls, roll a piece of brown paper into a tube and use that instead. An empty paper towel roll can be cut down to 4 2 inches (11 cm) tall.First, paint the toilet paper roll brown.Craft paint, tempera paint and poster paint will all work.

Step 18: Attach pompoms to your tree.

Press the pompom against the tree after applying a drop of hot glue or school glue.Don't use as many as you want.If you don't have pompoms, use colorful tissue paper to make small balls.Craft foam shapes, buttons, tinsel, or yarn can be used to decorate your tree. The kids' section of a craft store has pompoms.

Step 19: Take a sheet of green paper and put it in a cone.

Roll a sheet of green construction paper into a cone shape.Glue the paper together with staples. You can paint a Styrofoam cone green.

Step 20: Cut the bottom of the cone to make it straight.

The bottom of your cone will not be even because you used a square or rectangular sheet of paper.Cut around the base until you are back to where you started. The tree should be 25 to 28 cm tall.If you cut across the bottom of your cone, it will be out of shape.

Step 21: Cut a few strips of green paper.

Take a second sheet of green construction paper.Cut it into strips. You can make 1 1 in, 2 2 in and 2 3 in wide strips. The layers for your branches will be made by these. The narrower strips will go towards the top.

Step 22: Attach a fringe to the long edges of the strip.

The fringe should be finished at the bottom long edge and the top edge. The slit should be 8 to 4 inch apart. You can make your cutting faster by stacking the strips.

Step 23: The fringes should be Curled.

The fringe should be parallel to the edge of a table.Wrap the fringe over the edge of the table. The uncut top edge of the fringe should be left alone. This should be done for all of the strips.Curl the fringes from the long bottom edge.Curl them from one end to another.

Step 24: Glue the widest strip to the bottom of the cone.

Take one of your 3 wide strips and coat the uncut edge with glue.Cut off the excess by wrapping the strip around the cone.Make sure the fringe is curling outward.

Step 25: You can glue the rest of the fringes to the tree.

The 3 in wide strips should be used first, followed by the 2 in ones. You can add a 1 in wide strip if you still have room at the end.

Step 26: Allow the tree to dry, then decorate it as you please.

For a rustic look, glue pompoms or buttons to the tree. You can cut shapes out of foam or felt.White paint the ends of the fringes for a natural look.

Step 27: Paint an empty toilet paper roll and let it dry.

There is an empty toilet paper roll.Let it dry before painting it with craft paint, tempera paint or poster paint.Black lines are drawn across the trunk of a realistic tree.If you want a large palm tree, use an empty paper towel roll.If you can't find an empty toilet or paper towel roll, staple a sheet of brown paper into a tube and use it.

Step 28: Cut 5 3 in leaves from green construction paper.

A sheet of green construction paper should be folded in half.Cut out the long half-leaf shapes that were drawn along the fold.Continue using more paper until you have 5 leaves.

Step 29: The fringe should be on the edges of the leaves.

Cut a fringe into the curved edges of the leaves to keep them folded. There is a gap between the fringe and the folded edge of the leaf.

Step 30: Attach green pipe cleaners to the leaves.

Cut the green pipe cleaners into thirds.Put a pipe cleaner in the middle of your leaves.Make sure you have at least 1 to 2 inches of pipe cleaner sticking out of each leaf.If you want hot glue, be sure to let it dry.You will have a mini pipe cleaner left over.It could be used for another craft.

Step 31: Attach the pipe cleaners to the roll of toilet paper.

Put the pipe cleaners inside the toilet paper roll with hot glue or tacky glue. After pressing them against the inside walls of the roll, let the glue dry. There are pieces of masking tape that you can use.Put the pipe cleaners in the toilet paper roll so that the leaves touch the top of the roll.

Step 32: Once the glue dries, bend the leaves downward.

It will make the palm trees look realistic. If you want the leaves to be curved, you can bend them.To make coconuts, hot glue some brown pompoms to the top of the tree.
