How To Make a Thor Costume

Have you ever wanted to be the god of thunder and war for Halloween? The costume is very easy to make and requires items that can be found in any household. The hammer, cape, and helmet are fun to make.Soon you will be able to join the other Avenger's and take down the evil villains of the world, because you'll look like Thor for Halloween.

Step 1: Purchase a box of tissues.

The tissue box should be larger than the square ones. The tissues should be left in the box.The tissues will hold the hammer in place.Take a paper towel roll.Wait until you have finished off a roll to take the paper towels off.You should only use tissue boxes that have an opening at the top, rather than an open side.

Step 2: Put the box together.

The tissue box has a plastic covered opening.Take duct tape and wrap it around the box.Wrap the roll of tape around the box. There are pieces of duct tape that can be added to the existing tape.

Step 3: Roll the rest of the box.

Wrap the roll in duct tape in a circular motion from the base to the top.The top of the roll should be free of tape.Duct tape the tissue box.The goal is to make the box look smooth. The entire box needs to be covered in tape. The final product will show the tape on the tissue box, so make sure to use silver duct tape for this part of the project.

Step 4: Put your paper towel roll in the container.

Break tinfoil into strips.Put the small strips into the opening of the paper towel roll. When you get a few, take the end of a spatula or long utensil and shove it into the roll.Press the tinfoil down.Continue to add crumpled strips and tinfoil after removing your utensil. The entire roll needs to be filled.Take a strip of duct tape and place it over the opening so that the tinfoil doesn't fall out.

Step 5: Wrap your hand.

Purchase a piece of paper.Put a thin line of glue down one end of the paper. There is equal space on both sides if the end is against the handle.Wrap the paper around the handle.Super glue can be added to the short edge of the paper after the entire piece is wrapped around. When it is dry, press it down against the handle.

Step 6: Pick the right fabric.

You can buy a large piece of red flannel at an arts and crafts store.Red should be between pure red and maroon.Measure from your neckline to your feet with a measuring tape.Measure from one shoulder to the other. The dimensions of your fabric will be determined by these two measurements. The flannel can be purchased directly off the bar.You won't be able to buy the correct size if you buy it pre-packaged.Make sure to buy a piece of fabric that is larger than what you need so that you can cut it down to the correct size later on.If you want to substitute this step for showing you how to make a cape, you can purchase a red apron or robe and tie it to your neck backwards.

Step 7: Take a piece of fabric and cut it out.

It is a good idea to lay your flannel on a flat surface.Put a ruler down at one of the short ends.Make a pencil mark on the middle of the short end.Measure 4 inches away from the edge on each side of the mark.Make a mark on the two points.Use scissors to cut into your fabric longways, about 10 inches at each of the two 4 inch marks. You should have a rectangular flap with only one side left on.Cut this side off as well.

Step 8: The medallions need to be made.

Take a piece of black felt.flip the cup upside downWith a pencil, trace the rim of the cup.If you do this twice, you will have two circles.Use a pair of scissors to cut the circles from the felt.

Step 9: The cape and medallions should be sewed together.

Get rid of your sewing machine. You should use standard red thread for this project. If you want to show off the bright side of your cape, turn it.Put your shoulder flaps halfway down one of the black felt circles. The middle of the strap should meet the felt circle. If you apply a 1/2 inch inseam with your sewing machine, you can either pin them together or hold them tightly.Attach the second black felt circle to the other shoulder strap. It is possible to sew them together by hand. For more information on how to sew a blanket, visit How to Stitch a Blanket.

Step 10: You need to finish your cape.

Attach a safety pin to each of the black medallions.Pull the cape around your shoulders and then slide the pins through your shirt to keep it from falling off.

Step 11: You can grab a paper plate.

There is a fabric tape measure around the edge of the plate. As you make a pencil mark on the ground, hold it there. It would be best to mark the edge of the plate at the 8, 16 and 24 inch marks if the total distance was less than 61 cm.Draw a dot in the center of the paper plate after removing the tape measure. The center dot should be connected to the outside edge marks using a ruler.Draw lines with a pencil.Use a pair of scissors to cut out the pieces. If you make a mistake later on, leave the third piece aside.

Step 12: Measure and slice your wings.

As if they were the bottom two pieces of a plate, place them on a flat surface.Measure at the bottom corner where the plates meet with a fabric tape measure. To make a pencil mark at the 1 1/2, 3, and 4 2 inch marks, you need to measure along the edge of the right piece.Once more, start to measure from the bottom corner where both pieces meet, as you flip your tape measure around. The outside edge of the left piece should be marked with a 1 1/2, 3, 4 1/2 inch mark.Between the 1 1/2 and 3 inch marks on both pieces, you can use a pair of scissors to cut out a triangle that is about 1 inch (3 cm) tall. The base of the triangle is on the edge of a paper plate. It doesn't matter if it's perfect, the edges should be straight and symmetrical between the right and left pieces. The marks on the pieces are 3 and 4 1/2 inches.Instead of a 1 inch tall triangles, you will make 1 2 inch ( 3.8 cm) tall.Try to keep the edges of the triangle straight.

Step 13: Measure and cut your headband.

Wrap a measuring tape around your head.Bring the other end of the measuring tape to meet it, as you hold the end against your head.As you wrap it around, make sure it is sitting on your ears. You will want to know the total length of your head. You can add three inches to the length.Take a ruler and measure out a piece of paper that is 2 inches wide and 3 inches long. The dimensions of your rectangle would be 2X13 inches if the circumference is 10 inches.

Step 14: You should design your headband.

Cut a triangle from the middle of your piece of paper.Use a ruler to make a pencil mark at the middle of the long edge.Make a pencil mark on each side of the middle mark.Use a pair of scissors to cut out an upside-down triangle that is 1 inch tall. You should have one long strip of paper with a triangle cut out of it.

Step 15: Your headband and wings should be painted.

Put your three pieces on top of the old newspapers on the table.Get out the can of spray paint. As you spray the paint, use slow, smooth strokes.Wait about an hour for one side of the three pieces to dry, then coat the other side. It's important to do this in a safe place. You don't want to spray paint around other people or in a contained room, like a garage. If the room you are painting has windows or doors, open them to get air circulation. You should wear a doctor's mask so that you don't breathe in fumes. You don't want paint on your nice clothes if you wear old t-shirts.

Step 16: Put your helmet on.

Put a small amount of glue on the end of the headband. The glue should cover the end of the paper.Bring the ends of the headband together.Glue them together if you have to.For about a minute, hold them.Put a small amount of glue in the middle of the wings. The wings will curve inward when you place them on the headband. The glue goes on the sides of the paper plate where food can be put on.The triangle should be in front and the headband upside down. The uncut part of the wings are positioned high while the cut out triangles are low.Press each wing on the headband.Hold them there for about a minute to give the glue time to dry.

Step 17: Pick the right clothes to wear.

You should look for a pair of black boots. You can find these at a costume shop. The closer the boot is to the knee, the better. You should wear a pair of dark blue or black pants with your costume. You can wear a dark pair of jeans.

Step 18: There are accessories you can use to compliment your costume.

Look for stores that sell tights. If you want to cover your forearm areas, you need a silver pair. You can spray paint the tights silver if you can only find standard colors. There is a substitute for arm tights. The feet have to be cut so your hands can slide through them.pinned to your chest area is any silver medallions that you own.Make sure you have two, one for each side of your chest, because it's best to keep the medallions symmetrical. The medallions should be square.

Step 19: It's time to style your hair.

The hair is down to the shoulder. If you don't already have long hair, it is best to get a wig.If your hair is long, apply a gel to it.Take a comb and work it back and forth. The hair is combed and laid against the shoulder and back area.
