How To Make a Tower Garden

You can make every inch of your land count with tower gardens.Plants can be grown in a tower garden if you have a small living space. If you want to heighten the tower with wire mesh, use a bucket or terracotta pot.Take care of your garden by planting a variety of seeds and seedlings.

Step 1: Put stones in a bucket or terracotta pot.

You can buy small stones from a local plant nursery.Continue adding rocks until the container is half full.Depending on the size of your plants, the bucket or pot can be different. The size of your container can be as small as 16 inch (40 cm) wide pot or as large as five gallon bucket.

Step 2: A wire mesh cylinder should be inserted into the stones.

The length ration between your container and cylinder should be between 1:2 and 3:1.The wire mesh should be completely covered by the stones.Check the cylinder for looseness.

Step 3: Add moss to the wire mesh cylinder.

The moss keeps the soil moist. You will not have to water as frequently if you have sphagnum moss on the bottom of your tower garden. The cylinder should be filled with about 2 inches.

Step 4: The soil is on top of the moss.

The mesh cylinder should be filled with about 4-5 inches of soil.On top of the moss, layer this.Choose soils that retain water and minerals. As you add plants later on, you will layer more moss into the tower garden.

Step 5: You can put flowers, fruits, or herbs in your garden.

Plants can grow well in a tower garden. There are plants that can make your garden functional.Plants and flowers complement each other in the garden.Tomatoes or cucumbers need a lot of room to grow.At a time, plant a few larger plants.

Step 6: Plants are chosen based on where you'll put your garden.

Pick plants that are sun-loving in areas that get a lot of light and shade in spots that don't get as much sunlight.Unless you specifically plant a shade garden, place your tower garden in a spot that receives between six and eight hours of sunlight a day.

Step 7: The tallest plants should be planted on the bottom.

If you want to block out the sun from smaller plants, place them on top.Determine the expected sizes of your plants and organize your garden accordingly.

Step 8: The roots are between the wire mesh.

Pick the ideal locations for your plants. To establish a strong root system in the garden, place them below the seeds.Add more moss to the wire mesh interior once your plants are secure.

Step 9: At an appropriate depth, plant seeds in the soil.

Place the seeds between the wire mesh.Check the packet for the correct depth of your seeds. When the plants have time to grow, don't add additional sphagnum moss around your seeds.

Step 10: Plants need to be watered at least once a week.

It's a good idea to water your garden every now and then.Attach a finger to the soil once or twice a week.Plants need to be watered if the soil is dry.

Step 11: Compost tea can be used to water plants.

If your plants are growing in a limited space, you'll need to give them more nutrition.Compost tea is used every other week.It is possible to use worm castings tea as an alternative.

Step 12: There are signs of disease.

Take a look at the plants. If you want your entire garden to be strong, you need to treat or remove plants that are sick.

Step 13: Occasionally, check for pests and weeds.

Tower gardens have less trouble with plants and insects. Thanks to the limited soil space and distance from the ground, this is possible.Plants can be inspected once or twice a month for bugs. You should research the pests that target the plants. You should keep an eye out for fruit flies if you're growing strawberries.

Step 14: Plants should be removed from your tower garden.

Take care of your tower garden until you're ready to plant again next year. For the first year, try plants that are easy to maintain.Move on to more complicated plants in the later seasons.
