How To Make an Animated GIF from a Video in Photoshop CS5

Have you ever watched a video and wished you could do the same? You now have the ability to make them quickly. This guide will show you how to make them in the program.

Step 1: Go to "File" and then "Import" once you're in the program.

Click on "Video Frames to Layers" if you want to do it in a newer version of the program.Mac users can do this by going to the Finder and selecting get info. The check box should open in 32 bits.Click on "Load" if you want to watch your video.Make sure it is a video that can be used in a program. The supported formats are. mpg, mp4 and mp4.

Step 2: Under "Range To Import", check the appropriate selections.

Check "Selected Frames Only" to select only a few frames. This option will speed up the conversion of your Gif.Thelayers will be smaller so that you can easily change them.Hold shift and drag towards the end of the video to make sure that a section has been highlighted. You will be able to make your video into a Gif.If you have a high frame rate video, check "Limit to Every [x] frames" and type a number in place of 'x'.The frame rate will be divided by 'x' to make conversion faster and image size lower.A frame rate of around 15-30 is what you would want.Click 'OK' to continue.

Step 3: Go to the window and look at the animation.

If your animation is looking the way you want it, trim unneeded frames and go to the animation area. The time is right to add new frames. It will take less time to load when you post it on a website if the amount of frames is low.The time of the animation is shown on the screen.Bigger numbers mean slower animations.

Step 4: You can check "forever" by going to the bottom left on the animation frames.

The animation will loop forever because of this.

Step 5: The "Rectangle marquee tool" is on the left side.

Pick the section you want to focus on.Click on the "crop" if you want to image it.The image will be reduced to the one highlighted as your area of focus.

Step 6: The image size of the video needs to be reduced.

To do this, you have to choose the new dimensions. If you don't pick out the right size, your GIF could look weird.Half the dimensions of the original Gif is what you want.Click on "Crop" if you want to image it.This will remove unneeded space from the picture and allow you to focus on the animation.Make any final changes.Your animation needs to be done now.

Step 7: Click on "Save for Web & Devices" to save it.

This will make your image better.

Step 8: Make sure it's animated by changing the setting to "GIF".

Click "Preview" at the left bottom to see if the animation appears correct in your browser. You can always Cancel if you want to change anything. The settings in the GIF menu apply compression.A lower file size may look bad in a browser. You can see if you experiment with the settings by throwing away the colors. You can choose "2 up" on the upper tabs of the save for web dialog box. This allows a view of "before and after" and a preview with a file size.Click on "Save" if everything looks good. You can save it by filling in the file name.
