How To Make Infusoria

Would you like to help your fish fry grow faster?Instead of buying infusoria, make your own with some leftover produce.Combine a few pieces of leafy greens or vegetables in a jar with water from an established tankLeave it in the sun so the produce can grow.Feed your fish fry a few drops of water that is rich with infusoria and watch them grow.

Step 1: Vegetables can be used to make the infusoria starter.

The base for the infusoria can be canned or fresh vegetables.If you like using more than one type of vegetable, it will encourage a variety of microorganisms to grow.Consider using shredded green cabbage and chopped lettuce.

Step 2: A 1 US quart jar is full with vegetables.

Before you put green beans or peas in the jar, you need to chop the leafy greens into pieces.The peas and green beans should be put in the jar.The vegetables will break down quicker in the water if they are chopped.

Step 3: Let the jar cool for 5 minutes after filling it with boiling water.

Carefully pour boiling water over the vegetables in the jar after boiling a kettle of water.Slowly pour until the jar is 1/3 full.The water should be cool until it is warm.The jar should be warm.When you pour boiling water into it, it may shatter.

Step 4: You can fill the jar with aquarium water.

Slowly pour in water from an established aquarium after the water in the jar is just warm to the touch.Continue pouring until the jar is full of water.If the aquarium debris gets into the jar, it's fine.The water in the aquarium has organisms that will help the infusoria grow.

Step 5: The jar should be in a sunny place.

The jar will get sunshine when it is moved to a windowsill.While you don't need to seal the jar shut, you can place a light cloth over the top to prevent things from falling into it.The sunshine will cause the vegetables to break down.This will make the infusoria want to eat it.

Step 6: It takes 2 to 3 days for the infusoria to develop.

The water becomes cloudy, which means thatbacteria is starting to grow.The water will become clearer as the infusoria grows.The infusoria is ready to feed your fish fry.Don't use infusoria until the water clears because it will soon be ready.

Step 7: To feed the fry a few drops of infusoria, use the dropper.

In the middle of the jar, place a clean eye dropper or turkey baster.If you want to get your fry in the fish tank, you have to remove some of the liquid.Feed the fry infusoria at least 2 times a day.Since infusoria are small and there are a lot of them in a single drop of liquid, you don't need to add very much liquid from the jar.

Step 8: Feed the fry for a week.

Continue to feed the infusoria until they're big enough to start eating larger foods, such as brine shrimp nauplii.The fry should grow quickly.The water may turn cloudy if you put too much infusoria liquid into the tank.

Step 9: The infusoria can be kept at room temperature.

The infusoria needs to be kept alive by avoiding extreme swings in temperature.The jar of infusoria can be left at room temperature.Remove the jar from the window and put it on the counter in the shade.If you want to prevent things from falling into the jar, lay a piece of cheesecloth or a light towel over the top.The food in the jar will spoil faster if a lid is screwed tightly onto it.

Step 10: After 2 days, discard the infusoria.

Within 2 days, you should be able to use the infusoria to feed your fish fry.The infusoria will not develop after 2 days.The water will be cloudy again.There is a smell coming from the produce in the jar.The jar should be labeled with the date it was originally set in the window, the development date of the infusoria, and the final date you need to discard it.
