How To Measure Your Inseam

It is important to know your inseam if you want a great-fitting pair of pants.Your inseam runs from the crotch of your pants to the hem of the leg.Measure your inseam to make sure your pants are the right length. It's best to get help from someone else if you can measure it yourself.

Step 1: Take a pair of pants that are similar to the ones you want to buy.

It is easy to find your inseam based on the pants you already own if you are happy with how your pants fit.You can find your favorite pair by wearing your pants. If you want the inseam to be more accurate, choose a similar type of pants. You would want to grab a pair of slacks that fit you well. You should use a pair of jeans if you are shopping for jeans.

Step 2: If it's printed there, check the tag for the inseam.

Sometimes pants have the measurement written on the tag.You can use the measurement to shop for similar pants if your pants do.You can still measure the inseam yourself if your pants don't fit.

Step 3: On a flat surface, fold your pants in half.

Place your pants on the floor. The legs should be lined up with each other after you fold your pants.

Step 4: The inseam is revealed by lifting the top pants leg up.

The top pants leg should be folded up so it is out of the way.You should be able to see the seam from the crotch down to the hem of the pants. The inseam is what this is.If there are folds in the lower pants leg, be sure to smooth them out.

Step 5: Measure from the crotch seam to the hem of the pants with a measuring tape.

There is a crotch seam in your pants. There is a seam that goes down your pants leg.Measure down to the hem of the pants leg using the end of your measuring tape.Your inseam is shown here.Measure all the way down the inseam, which is the seam that runs from the inside of your leg to the outside.

Step 6: When you go shopping, make a note of your inseam measurement.

You want to use the exact measurement so that your pants fit you perfectly.Purchase the perfect pair of pants with your inseam measurement. If you plan on wearing your new pants with high heels, add.5–1 inch to your inseam measurement so they are long enough. If you are buying pants that are prone to shrinking, make sure to round your inseam measurement up to the nearest half inch.

Step 7: Put on a pair of pants.

It is easier for someone to measure your inseam if you wear close-fitting pants. Both athletic leggings and tight jeans are good options.

Step 8: Take off your shoes.

Your inseam measurement can be affected by the added height from shoes. When you are having someone measure your inseam, you want to be barefoot.

Step 9: Stand against a wall.

When someone is measuring your inseam, standing against a wall will help you maintain good posture. The inseam measurement could be off if you are slouching.

Step 10: Measure your pants from the crotch seam to the floor.

The crotch seam is near the crotch of your pants.Measure the distance between the crotch seam of your pants and the floor.

Step 11: Shop for pants using your inseam measurement.

When you're pants shopping, write down your inseam measurement. If you plan on wearing your new pants with high heels, you will need to add.5–1 inch to your inseam measurement. If the pants are made with a fabric that shrinks a lot, round your inseam measurement up to the nearest half inch.

Step 12: Take the measurement in your underwear.

The nude is the best place to measure your body because the numbers are more accurate. It is okay to wear underwear, as you will probably wear them when you put on the pants.Since you are taking your own measurements, clothes can get in the way and you may not be able to get as close to your body.

Step 13: You can see your body by standing in front of a mirror.

It can be difficult to measure yourself. It is difficult to see your crotch and ankle if you are standing up straight.A mirror can be used to help you.Stand up straight, as best you can, while you take the measurement. If you want the best view of your body, choose a floor length mirror.Place the biggest mirror you have opposite your lower body if you don't have a floor mirror.

Step 14: The measuring tape should be placed where your thigh meets your groin.

Take the measuring tape out of its roll and hold it in your hand.Put the hand that's holding the tape up against the crotch of your upper thigh. You should get as close to your body as possible. You can put the tape in your hand if you have already unrolled it.Make sure you stick out the end of the tape so you can easily lower it.

Step 15: Lower the end of the tape.

Keeping it close to your skin, slowly unroll the measuring tape. You can see when the measuring tape reaches your ankle by looking in the mirror.

Step 16: When you reach your desired pant length, stop unrolling the tape.

The hem of your pants should fall where you want it to fall. The end of the tape should be stopped here.To make sure you are happy with where the tape is on your lower ankle, stand up straight and check the mirror.

Step 17: To get your inseam, check the number on your tape.

The measuring tape touches your crotch.Look at the measurement after removing the tape.Your inseam is shown here.Be very careful while you are doing this.Your inseam measurement could be off if you accidentally move your fingers down the tape.

Step 18: If you want to use your inseam for shopping, write it down.

When you are shopping for pants, make sure you have your measurement down.Rather than rounding up or down, use the exact measurement. You can use this to find the best fitting pants. If you plan to wear heels or pants that shrink, add 1 inch to your inseam. The pants made of cotton, linen, or wool may shrink.Since jeans are made from cotton, expect them to shrink in the wash.
